The Strategic Advisor develops, manages and executes initiatives, they act as an advisor to the program and may lead / oversee projects. The Strategic Advisor will be consulted for their expertise, advice, or help with respect to their expertise in palliative care service delivery, in particular within home and community care settings. The Strategic Advisor will be accountable for providing advice and expertise related to key specific portfolio outcomes and specific complex initiatives and integrated activities.

Key areas of responsibility include:

- Meaningful contributions to team strategic planning
- Engagement internally and externally with organizations and associations

Here is what you will be doing:
Overall:
- Provides input on the overall palliative care strategic plan, with a focus on integrating knowledge dissemination and evaluation into the OPCN’s relevant activities- Works with the program manager, project leads and/or Director to define operational objectives and oversee day-to day activities where required

Analysis:
- Develops frameworks, methodologies, standards, plans, metrics and/or tools- Consults with business leaders and provides authoritative advice- Leads and develops initiatives, whether for operations, projects, or research- Conducts presentations

Coordination/Collaboration:
- Proactively engages with stakeholders to understand and anticipate their needs for information, using surveys and key informant interviews; develops and fosters partnerships with organizations and client groups to ensure the relevance and quality of our knowledge products- Works with other OH departments to enable new, innovative modes of information dissemination, such as online forums, blogs, podcasts, social media, and infographics for the surveillance and surveillance research produced by the department- Deploys resources to ensure successful delivery of projects; recruits and informally supervises students

Relationship Management:
- Develops relationships with colleagues within the team, across the organization, and externally to understand best practices, issues, and research needs; share information; and provide assistance in understanding methodologies and results- Demonstrates leadership and integrity in interactions with internal and external stakeholders- Collaborates with internal colleagues to ensure quality standards and other quality products are delivered on-time and on budget- Builds relationships with industry colleagues to remain current on best practices, issues, and trends- Mentor and coach junior team members to grow capabilities and expertise.

Here is what you will need to be successful:
Education and Experience- Master’s degree in public health, epidemiology, health sciences, or other applied health-related discipline- 3-5 years of work experience in the practice of public health, implementing healthcare projects and/or clinical experience

Knowledge and Skills- Expert level knowledge of palliative care system, and service delivery, especially in home and community.- Sound knowledge of Ontario’s public health sector, its professional groups and organizations.- Demonstrated ability to appraise evidence to evaluate its quality, importance, and applicability- Judgment, planning and organizational skills to ensure that research, analysis and information needs and requirements are established and met, with priorities and deadlines being observed in support of the achievement of overall program goals.- Advisory and communication skills to collaborate with a broad range of contacts, to deliver analytical reports and to provide expert input at committee meetings- Strong written communication skills to prepare information analysis reports and lead presentations.- Project planning and management. Adept at balancing concurrent tasks and projects and work effectively in a dynamic work environment.- Critical thinking.- Demonstrated ability to take initiative and exercise sound judgment in setting priorities, identify issues and determine action required.- Proficiency in MS Office Suite in particular Outlook, Word, PowerPoint and Excel- Ability to work collaboratively to determine work objectives as well as in self-directed manner as defined within the overall context of the project plan.

Employment Type: Temporary part time Until March 31 2023

Paygrade and Zone: 6A
