**About World Fisheries Trust**

World Fisheries Trust (WFT) is a registered charity, established in 1995. It has an appointed board, who are the organization's "members", and a staff made up of employees and volunteers.

WFT’s work began in response to the need to protect the genetic variability of dwindling BC salmon stocks. This led to the expansion beyond borders to create and facilitate multi-stakeholder solutions to address conservation/ sustainable use challenges in fisheries and aquaculture, in the context of improving social equity and poverty alleviation.

WFT is known for its international projects that have focused on small-scale, community-based aquaculture development to improve food security for vulnerable populations in Latin America.
In the Greater Victoria area, WFT works through its domestic divisions**:Coastal Collaborative**
**Sciences **focusing on local research and stewardship projects and **Seaquaria Ocean**
**Education **delivering hands-on environmental educational programs in classrooms and on field trips.
- This position will be with our Victoria division, Seaquaria Ocean Education._

**Primary Duties and Responsibilities**:

- Organize and implement the Seaquaria Ocean Education program including:

- Assist with specimen and water collection as required;
- Develop, deliver and evaluate integrated, hand-on environmental and science education programs in classrooms, in the field, and online. Programs will be geared to strengthen multidisciplinary learning;
- Assist the Division Coordinator in building and maintaining partnership with community organizations;
- Update and create program resources including: lesson plans, activities, and videos;
- Assist with organization and delivery of professional development workshops for teachers and volunteers (COVID permitting);
- Maintain records;
- Provide technical & maintenance support for _Seaquaria _tank systems in schools

- Assist in the Salmon in the Classroom program
- plan and deliver workshops and presentations
- assisting hatchery tours
- assist in storm drain marking
- assist in fry release
- Maintain outreach communication efforts by:

- Updating and maintaining Seaquaria.org with new events, information, and other resources
- Participate in social media communications for World Fisheries Trust
- Assist in organizing and attend community events such as World Oceans Week (virtual or in person, COVID permitting);
**Qualifications Required**:

- Post secondary degree in biology, environmental studies, or related field;
- An understanding of marine animal biology and ecological principles;
- Experience working with youths (elementary and highschool);
- Experience with delivering educational programs;
- Valid driver’s license (use of own car may be required);
- Public speaking abilities;
- First Aid certification, and CPR-C (may be provided);
- Willingness to submit a Criminal Record Check;
- Team player;
- Able to work flexible hours;
- Priority may be given to individuals identifying as BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, and People of Colour).

**Assets**:

- Experience working with community groups;
- Experience in developing educational programs;
- Experience in event planning;
- Experience with website and online communications an asset;
- Experience in leading summer camps or other youth groups;
- Experience in science communication
