The Niagara Escarpment Commission is an agency of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry. The Commission implements the Niagara Escarpment Plan, undertakes policy analysis, and conducts stakeholder outreach. **What can I expect to do in this role?**: As the Niagara Escarpment Commission Policy and Program Intern, you will collaborate with Commission staff to support the development and interpretation of policies related to the Niagara Escarpment Plan, including providing technical, analytical and administrative support to the development of policies, procedures and programs by assisting in the research, analysis and synthesis of program data, records, jurisdictional scans and other sources of information to inform evidence
- based policy development and interpretation with respect environmental and land use planning. This includes providing support to manage information through data collection, consolidation, initiative tracking, analysis and reporting to support policy and program development and implementation. You will also assist in the development of options and recommendations on policies with respect to environmental and land use planning. You will also liaise with technical, policy and implementation staff within NEC and agencies/municipalities on policy projects and assist in preparation of reports, communications material, and outreach initiatives.

**Eligibility**:

- proof of eligibility to work in Canada
- graduated or will graduate from an approved or legally authorized college or university with a planning, public policy or environmental program diploma or an equivalent degree or postgraduate certificate within the last four years
- not a permanent employee in the OPS

**Knowledge, Skills and Abilities**: Knowledge:

- You have knowledge of policy development, research, and analysis and a general understanding of legislative, regulatory, policy and planning tools that support environmental land use planning in Ontario. You also have an understanding of policy development processes and Indigenous and public consultation and engagement approaches.
- You have knowledge of the theory, principles and practices of land use and environmental planning, including a general understanding of legislative, regulatory, policy and planning tools that support environmental and land use planning in Ontario.

Analytical, Research and Organizational Skills:

- You have well developed research and analytical skills to conduct research, analyze, assess, and report on complex and diverse issues with attention to detail.

Communication and Interpersonal Skills:

- You have strong communications skills, both oral and written, work effectively as part of a multi-disciplinary team and can deliver effective presentations.
- You have knowledge of communications, marketing and outreach approaches including the ability to undertake stakeholder scans, prepare reports and identify communications strategies and tactics.
- You have strong interpersonal skills, are professional, and exercise sound judgement
- You have information management skills and computer skills to conduct sound research.
