Development Services has one (1) GIS Summer Student position available from May until September 2023.

**Purpose of the Position and Profile**:
Reporting to the GIS Technician, the GIS Summer Student will support the Township by providing assistance with various GIS activities, including data collection, data maintenance, editing feature classes and creation of cartographic products.

**Responsibilities**:

- Assists with the creation of mapping products, as well as updating mapping templates
- Assists with the creation and updating of GIS data layers and feature classes
- Importing and exporting data in a variety of formats (i.e. gdb, shp, csv, dwg etc.)
- Ensures metadata and spatial data standards are maintained
- Performs analysis using air photography and geo-referenced spatial data
- Provides service to customers requesting drawings, mapping and other spatial information
- Assists the Planning Division in day-to-day activities
- Other duties as assigned

**Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills, and Work Requirements**:

- Currently enrolled in a post-secondary degree, or diploma, in Planning, Geography, Earth Science, Geomatics, Geographic Information Systems or a related field of study
- Strong capabilities with Microsoft suite of products
- Demonstrated experience with ESRI suite of GIS products, including ArcPRO and ArcMap
- Experience with ArcGIS Enterprise, Portal and ArcGIS Online an asset
- Knowledge of general database concepts
- Experience and knowledge working with a variety of data types
- Knowledge of GIS metadata principles
- Experience with geoprocessing tools and spatial analysis of data is considered an asset
- Strong organizational, time management and interpersonal skills
- Strong work ethic and ability to communicate clearly and professionally
- Sound independent judgment and problem-solving ability
- Effective verbal and written communication skills, including strong customer service skills
- Possession and maintenance of a valid Ontario Driver’s License with a minimum Class G and ability to travel as needed
- Must comply with the Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA), and applicable regulations

**Working Conditions**:

- Generally operates within an office environment however may be required to site work for data collection
