Calgary, Canada United Food and Commercial Workers Local 401 Full time

United Food and Commercial Workers (UFCW) Local 401 is Alberta’s largest private sector union representing 32,000 members working in diverse industries such as retail, food processing, beverage production, hospitality, gaming, healthcare and education. We are part of the 1.3-million-member United Food and Commercial Workers International Union, representing working people across North America.

Our growing local union is currently seeking a **Union Labour Relations Officer - Corporate Researcher** out of our Calgary or Edmonton offices, however, work location may be negotiable. Travel and mobile work will be required. This role will include, but no limited to high level research support for all of the local’s campaigns. This is a contract with a period of up to one (1) year with office hours and the possibility of extension.

The role requires contribution to positive interaction with the membership, positive public relations of the local union with external stakeholders such as employers, decision-makers, allied organizations, and the general public. You will help create an inclusive and diverse environment for non-union audiences to engage with the local union and build and maintain productive relationships with community partners and allies of the local union.

**JOB DESCRIPTION**
- Collect, analyze and interpret data to help UFCW Local 401 make informed decisions and enhance the interested of members represented by UFCW. This role involves conducting market and corporate research in the industries and sectors where UFCW members or possible members would be employed.
- Analyzing financial data, identifying trends, and preparing reports contributing to the organization’s strategic planning and operational efficiency.
- Compiles, analyze, summarizes and presents data on industry, companies, individuals, and issues to support UFCW Local 401.
- Keep track of non-union density within targeted sectors allowing for the identification of large and small corporate targets and maintain databases on such targets.
- Gathers information through desk and field research, both qualitative and quantitative - including site visits, interviews, surveys, networking, attending public hearings and industry events.
- Responding to request for information from local union officers and appropriately define and develops them, makes referral as necessary.
- Work independently and with other researchers to create complicated queries on retail regulatory changes, uncover new trends and anomalies, model impacts of policy or regulatory change, uncover new trends and anomalies or provide quick responses to information needs and union campaigns.

**MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS**

Applicants must have the following competencies for this position:

- College or University degree in political science or journalism, general clinical research, statistics, or data analysis.
- 5 years’ experience in the labour movement or organizing; or
- 5 years’ experience or more in a community organizing role is an asset.
- Advanced Microsoft Office suite skills (Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, SharePoint, etc.)
- Knowledge of ALRB rules and procedures
- Effective interpersonal communicator adept at building relations online and offline.
- Ability to problem solve and make decisions in real time in a fast-paced environment.
- Self starter with the ability to manage workflow independently as well as collaboratively.
- Excellent writing and editing skills.
- Knowledge of privacy law (PIPA), FOIP, publicly traded companies, company governance, and financial markets would be an asset.
