The Public Works Department develops and maintains the Village’s roads, utilities, rights-of-way, and other infrastructure and services We are seeking energetic applicants who are comfortable working individually or within a team and are willing to learn new skills that are important to the day-to-day operations of a small but vibrant community.

The successful applicant must have the following certificates/training and experience:

- Class 5 drivers’ license with Air Endorsement.
- Three (3) years’ experience in the operation of heavy equipment utilized in road and utility construction.
- Winter road maintenance including sanding and plowing.
- Repair and maintenance of municipal infrastructure.

Preference will be given to those individuals who possess additional training and skills in the following areas:

- EOCP training
- Occupational First Aid Level 1 or higher

The applicant will be required to work a five-day, 37.5-hour week as per the Collective Agreement for an Outside worker.

Reporting to the Public Works Foreman and taking direction from the Public Works Foreman or his/her designate, the employee will perform a variety of tasks in the construction and maintenance of municipal infrastructure.

**TYPICAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES**
- The safe operation of heavy equipment including but not limited to single axle dump truck, rubber tire backhoe, and street sweeper.
- Winter road maintenance including sanding and snow plowing, sidewalk snow clearing.
- The safe operation of equipment such as jumping jacks, plate tampers, ride-on lawn mowers, and other powered hand tools.
- Inspection and cleaning of equipment being operated and performing minor maintenance as required including the reporting of maintenance and servicing requirements to the Foreman or Mechanic.
- Labour responsibilities as assigned including assisting with the installation, repair, and maintenance of all municipal infrastructure such as water, sanitary sewer, roads, parks, and building facilities.
- May be required to assist with water meter readings and water meter maintenance.
- Maintain relevant logs and records.
- Perform traffic control and/or flagging duties as required.
- Perform standby duties as required.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Public Works Foreman or his/her designate.

**MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS**:
Education Requirements:

- Grade 12 or equivalent.

**Training/Certification**
- Must possess and maintain a Class 5 driver’s license with Air Endorsement.
- WHIMIS Certification.

**Experience**:

- Three years of experience in the operation of equipment including heaving equipment utilized in road and utility construction.
- Related experience in the repair and maintenance of municipal infrastructure.
- Winter road maintenance including sanding and plowing.

**Knowledge, Skills and Abilities**:

- Demonstrated knowledge of the methods, materials, tools, and equipment used in road and utility maintenance and construction.
- Thorough knowledge of WorkSafe BC Regulations and safe work procedures.
- Thorough knowledge of traffic control requirements.
- Thorough knowledge of safe equipment operation.
- Ability to read blueprints and, construction drawings and schematics and use of survey equipment to shoot grade levels.
- Basic office computer skills.
- Ability to work well as a member of a team and independently.
- Ability to deal with the public in a courteous and tactful manner.
- Ability to multi-task and cope effectively with deadlines.
- Ability to understand and carryout oral and written instructions.
- Must have sufficient physical strength, stamina, and ability to perform the work.
- Good verbal and written communication skills.
- Safe work habits and practices.

Preference will be given to those individuals who possess additional training and skills with the following:

- EOCP level 1 training in water distribution and sewer collection.
- Occupational First Aid Level 1.
- Experience and/or training in the maintenance and installation of water meters.

**UNUSUAL WORKING CONDITIONS**
- The employee may be required to work in adverse weather conditions.
- Physically demanding work.
- May be required to work with live sanitary sewers and sewage.

**Job Types**: Full-time, Fixed term contract
Contract length: 4 months

Pay: Up to $35.54 per hour

Expected hours: 37.5 per week

Schedule:

- Monday to Friday
- Weekends as needed
