The Public Works Department develops and maintains the Village’s roads, utilities, rights-of

Reporting to the Public Works Foreman in the Operations Department, the Seasonal Labourer is responsible for a variety of tasks in support of Cumberland’s Public Works department. The Public Works Labourer completes general duties related to the construction, maintenance and operation of roads, utilities, and other municipal infrastructure.

**KEY RESPONSIBILITIES**

**Below is a partial list of Key Responsibilities**

The Seasonal Labourer, under the direct supervision of the Public Works Foreman, is to perform the activities necessary to safely and timely complete the duties of the Operations department. Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:

- Assists in the construction, maintenance, and operation of various aspects of Village operations. Including, but not limited to:

- o Underground utilities
- o Street infrastructure
- o Litter collection and disposal
- o Other civic grounds and facilities
- The safe operation of equipment such as jumping jacks, plate tampers, and other powered hand tools.
- Inspection of equipment being operated and performing minor maintenance as required including the reporting of maintenance and servicing requirements to their supervisor.
- Perform traffic control and/or flagging duties as required.
- Performs basic carpentry tasks, including use of saws and drills.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Public Works Foreman or his/her designate.
- Carries out safe work practices and adheres to safety and other work-related regulations.
- Produces and maintains or assists in maintaining information and data necessary to meet internal and external requirements.
- Purchasing of materials and supplies as needed while adhering to internal policies.
- Performs any other department backup functions and other related duties as assigned or required from time to time.

**GENERAL DEPARTMENT RESPONSIBILITIES**
- Ensures compliance to applicable Village policies, bylaws, and safety regulations.
- Provides input on modifications or improvements to policies, procedures, and practices to improve the functioning of the Department; and provides input to written work procedures for own area of responsibility as requested.
- Carries out safe work practices and adheres to safety and other work-related regulations; reports unsafe and/or insecure situations that may arise from time to time; and implements emergency procedures as directed.

**QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS**

**Education**:

- Completion of Grade 12 or equivalent

**Experience**:

- Minimum one (1) year relevant experience in the repair and maintenance of municipal infrastructure within the past five (5) years.

**REQUIRED LICENCES, CERTIFICATES AND ASSOCIATION MEMBERSHIPS**_**:_
- Valid Class 5 Driver's License
- Clear Driver’s abstract
- Occupational First Aid Level 1
- WHIMIS Certification
- Traffic Control/Flagging training or certification.
- Experience using grade level survey equipment
- An Occupational First Aid Level 1 ticket.
- Demonstrated knowledge of municipal infrastructure construction, operation, and maintenance.
- Self-motivated with excellent interpersonal skills.
- Ability to operate a variety of small equipment safely and efficiently.
- Sufficient physical strength, stamina, and coordination to permit the performance of heavy manual outdoor work in all weather conditions.
- Strong interpersonal, communication, organizational, and time management skills.
- Ability to deal with public in a courteous and tactful manner.
- Ability to work well as a member of a team and independently.

**Job Types**: Full-time, Fixed term contract
Contract length: 9 months

**Salary**: $31.12 per hour
