**Elementary Guidance Counsellor**

**(This position will commence late August 2024)**

**Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to**:

- Provide group or individual counseling to address the needs of students and their families
- Monitor and observe students to identify and address personal, emotional, social and educational issues
- Refer students to health psychologists and other professionals for proper medical attention and necessary treatment
- Consult with families and staff to highlight student needs and discuss strategies
- Develop and implement effective school counseling programs that meet students’ needs for success
- Conduct student assessment and maintain records
- Listen to students’ concerns and offer recommendations to effectively address and resolve academic or psychological issues
- Guide and support school staff in creating and implementing SEL strategies and lessons
- Employ responsive counseling in establishing positive relationships between teachers, parents, and students
- Develop and maintain an effective school counseling program consistent with the school’s mission and goals
- Keep the Head of Elementary apprised of any problems encountered
- Plan, organize and implement all school counseling activities
- Collaborate with parents, staff and faculty to ensure there is full understanding of the counseling program activities and objectives
- Develop and implement counseling strategies
- Implement and facilitate educational and training workshops for academic staff
- Provide consultation to staff members and offer them a variety of educational and training workshops

**Qualifications, Experience and Attributes**:

- Bachelor’s Degree in Education
- Ontario College of Teachers Certification with Junior/Intermediate school qualifications
- Experience counseling and educating Elementary children individually, and in group settings is essential
- Guidance Specialist qualifications, with a minimum of 3 years of Guidance experience
- Demonstrated experience in providing social-emotional support to Elementary-age children
- Independent School experience is an asset
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- A current Vulnerable Sector Check
- Current First Aid, CPR and AED.
