**POSITION PURPOSE**

**MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES**
- Manages all day-to-day operational activities for the conventional and bus rapid transit services including Transit’s Control Centre
- Oversees the scheduling of conventional buses.
- Oversees the safety and training program for YRT/Viva.
- Oversees the administration of all conventional and bus rapid transit service contracts.
- Develops and prepares all performance based contracts related to transit operations.
- Reviews contract documents, agreements and reports for the purpose of assessing incentives/disincentives.
- Liaises with TMS staff and oversees the installation and configuration of all Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) equipment on buses and at terminals, including GTA Smartcard, GFI Electronic Fare Box System, vehicular GPS, passenger count equipment, CAD AVL, destination signs, and transit signal priority.
- Utilizes ITS equipment to ensure service quality and records management.
- Manages the development of effective transit schedules for customer information and contractor use.
- Develops guidelines and establishes service level criteria.
- Reviews and analyzes on-going system performance, utilizing current technology.
- Ensures optimization of resources (fleet allocation) to minimize costs to the Region.
- Manages accuracy of ridership and revenue data for planning purposes and trend analysis.
- Assists the Director in preparing, recommending, monitoring and controlling the Branch budget; prepares the business unit annual budget, special project budgets, and work plans.
- Continually monitors expenditures to ensure compliance to budget and the effective and efficient use of resources.

**QUALIFICATIONS**
- Successful completion of a University Degree in Business Administration, Transportation, or related field or approved equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Minimum five (5) years demonstrated operational experience a transit related environment including demonstrated supervisory or leadership experience in a unionized environment.
- Demonstrated knowledge of transit and/or transportation operations.
- Valid Ontario Class "G" driver's license and reliable vehicle to use on corporate business.
- Demonstrated knowledge of relevant Standards, Acts and Regulations as they pertain to transit operations.
- Knowledge of current local by-laws and guidelines for fare enforcement, boarding, and fare policy.
- Working knowledge of transit bus equipment, scheduling and run cutting, electronic destination signs, GFI fare boxes, and applicable corresponding software.
- Leadership competencies including operating strategically, leveraging diversity and differences, customer focused, ensuring accountability, managing complex problems, financial management, employing interactive and effective communication, fostering collaborative relationships, cultivating engagement to drive vision and purpose, managing and developing talent, establishing and maintaining trust, displaying self-awareness, and demonstrating resiliency.
- Contemporary supervisory and human resource management skills, knowledge of collective agreement administration and interpretation, and labour relations principles and practices.
