Program summary
Provides legal information, support, referrals and advocacy services for low-income residents of the Shuswap area. Program is based in Salmon Arm.
Job summary points:
Providing overall administrative support for the poverty law advocacy program such as:
- Answering calls from clients, assessing the nature of their enquiries,
- determining if clients meet criteria for service, otherwise suggesting suitable resources
- scheduling clients
- entering information into database, opening client files
Qualifications/experience/skills:
Post-secondary education in social sciences, law, counseling or other relevant qualification or combination of relevant education and experience
Aptitude for working effectively with disadvantaged clients, ability to deal with distressed clients in a calm and respectful manner
Ability to manage confidential information and understand need for high ethical standards and discretion.
Knowledge of local community resources and an awareness and understanding of poverty and diversity-related issues
Criminal record check
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Ability to work effectively with people of diverse cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds
Proficiency with Mac computers and Microsoft Office and a willingness to learn and adapt to legal technologies

**Salary**: $15.65-$23.00 per hour
