Niagara Falls, Canada Mareas Therapeutic Services Inc. Full time

**Overview**
Mareas is currently seeking both male and female mentors for children & youth in the Niagara and Stoney Creek area. The Specialized Support Worker is responsible for working collaboratively as part of Mareas interdisciplinary team of Therapists, Case Managers and Family Outreach Workers, in supporting children and families within the foster care system, and children with complex needs. This includes planning creative activities and outings based on child/youth needs & abilities, and building life skills, while acclimating children to their communities.

**Job Requirements**:

- Be available for a minimum of 10 hours of support per week to a max of 35 hours per week
- Available to work within the Niagara & Stoney Creek area as required
- Must be able to work independently in client homes and within the community
- Must have a flexible schedule and able to meet with children, youth and families at various times, primarily when children are available (after school hours, weekends and scheduled school holidays)
- The following physical components will be required for this position: driving to all assigned client locations, walking, ability to work shifts that are minimum of 3 hours in length.
- The following components may be required for this position: behaviour management, crisis management/response, verbal and physical de-escalation using approved training, physical activity with children or youth
- Must have a clear Vulnerable Person Police Clearance
- Required to meet (virtual or in person) as required with Client Care Manager to review progress of clients and also participate in regular team meetings and training.
- Agree to adhere to the working principles outlined Policies & Procedures of Mareas Therapeutic Services
- Must participate in Mareas orientation and Essential Skills training prior to starting with clients.
- Valid Driver’s License and accessibility to safe & reliable vehicle is usually needed for shifts
- Driver’s abstract with valid car insurance with $2,000,000 liability for adequate coverage transporting a child/youth

**QUALIFICATIONS**:

- Certification or a Diploma and/or Degree from an Accredited Canadian School. Consideration will be given to such programs as (but not limited to)**:Child & Youth Counselling**, **Developmental Service Worker**, **Social Service Worker**, **Recreation, Educational Assistant**:

- Minimum 2 years experience working with children and youth with complex needs
- Clear criminal record check, including vulnerable sector check and clear CAS background check prior to hiring
- UMAB (or willingness to obtain certification)
- First Aid/CPR Certification (or willingness to obtain certification)
- Understanding and working knowledge of Behaviour Management Strategies, ASD, Attachment and Trauma are assets
- Related training or volunteer experience are assets.

Pay: $18.00-$25.00 per hour
