The School of Social Work in the Faculty of Health & Community Studies delivers both a two-year Social Work Diploma as well as a Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) degree. The diploma prepares students for entry-level social work practice and the BSW includes a focus on sustainability and practice with Indigenous Peoples. Our programs educate students to integrate foundational social work theory, ethics and practice skills to prepare graduates for social work careers in a range of fields of practice within health, mental health and social services in governmental, for-profit and non-profit organizations. Our programs concentrate on building social work generalist knowledge and skills for practice with individuals, children and families and communities.

You will teach courses in the BSW and social work diploma programs in the School of Social Work. Field practicum is an integral part of social work education, and you will be required to supervise students’ field practicum. You are expected to be involved in scholarly activities to strengthen teaching and research in social work.

You will hold (or be near completion of) a Ph.D. in Social Work, or a related discipline and you will hold a master’s degree in social work. You will have post-MSW practice experience and experience teaching social work. You will have a minimum of five years combined teaching and practice experience. You will have a clear and demonstrated program of social work-related research and you must be eligible to be a Registered Social Worker (RSW) in Alberta.

You will demonstrate strong teaching skills, a commitment to the Social Work Code of Ethics, evidence of research and significant scholarly activity, and a willingness to engage in service to the school, university and community. You will have knowledge in adult learning theory, curriculum design, and the capacity to teach in blended learning environments, along with the expertise to teach a broad range of social work courses across the curriculum in both the BSW and Social Work Diploma programs. You are expected to develop and foster connections in the community for field practicum placements and partnerships for scholarly activities.
