You will play a vital role in enhancing the department’s focus on Emergency Communications and Response, Community Justice and Corrections, Police Studies, and Investigative Studies. These programs focus on equipping students with the knowledge and skills required to build safe, secure and just communities. Faculty members with strong connections to professional practice prepare students to protect and serve our communities.
- Call processing principles;
- Radio Communication techniques;
- Emergency Communication protocols and practices;
- Deployment management strategies;
- Interpersonal Communication;
- Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) systems;
- Emergency Dispatching including tactical operation; and
- Trends in the Emergency Communications sector.

You may also be expected to facilitate and supervise students in field placements across a variety of agencies.

You will have expertise in emergency communications (e.g., fire, police, EMS, highly specialized communication centres), emergency planning, scene investigations, and security and risk planning and response. You will have a minimum of 10 years professional experience in the field of emergency communications, private or corporate security management, public safety, or a related field, with a Master’s degree in a related field. Teaching experience, with a strong understanding of the principles of adult education and curriculum development, as well as proficiency in research will be strong assets. In addition, you will have excellent interpersonal, communication and organizational skills, and be able to work as a collaborative team member.
