- Reporting to the Community Services Coordinator or designate, the Community Services _
- Supervisor, Welcoming Communities, will be responsible for providing leadership to designated _
- project staff to ensure that the project objectives are met - producing a quality program with _
- measurable outcomes, in accordance with the contractual agreement between the funder and _
- Business Development and Community Services (BDCS). _
- The Welcoming Communities program helps newcomer students in elementary, middle, and _
- secondary schools feel engaged and at ease as they integrate into their new communities in _
- Canada.**Summary of Duties**:
Supervise and assign duties to staff;
Promote teamwork and collaboration;
Conduct regular staff meetings to motivate and energize team;
Direct staff to complete operational activities;
Participate in hiring and disciplining processes as required according to TDSB procedures;
Monitor staff attendance;
Analyze outcomes to be measured against prescribed norms;
Present suggestions for improvement to staff in a professional, encouraging and courteous

manner;
Provide support to staff in their communication/relationship with clients and/or employers;
Review changes to funder or BDCS goals and objectives with staff for clarification/direction;
Ensure outcomes/targets set out in the contractual agreement are met;
Ensure files/reports are maintained in a professional, confidential manner;
Follow funder policies and procedures related to client referral, and/or employer recruitment;
Review client and/or employer files on a regular basis;
Deal with client problems in program and visit at host site;
Develop rapport with and provide support to clients or referring agencies by phone and on site;
Ensure client and/or employer follow up is completed and recorded;
Maintain budget, approve staff expenditures - accountable to BDCS management;
Approve payroll vouchers;
Perform outreach to target clients;
Promote program through materials and presentations;
Establish and maintain linkages to other community agencies and employment service providers

within user communities;
Attend meetings which promote or support program in the community;
Meet with Community Services Coordinator or designate to review goals, activities and outcomes;

Ensure clarity of objectives for staff and clients;
Collaborate to effectively track client and/or employer information, program statistics, subsidy

expenditures, claims paid, etc.;
Recommend improvements to the service to BDCS management;
Participate in the proposal process, ensuring that the proposal reflects the vision of the service;
Develop knowledge about local community agencies, services and resources;
Identify new directions, gaps and areas to be enhanced or improved enrol in courses and

conferences to keep current on labour market trends and conditions;
Set operational standards and practices;
Prepare monthly statistical and other narrative reports for BDCS and funder project officer;
Represent BDCS at community meetings where appropriate;
Provide leadership in fostering equity and inclusiveness in the development and implementation of

programs and services;
Liaise regularly with BDCS staff related to accountability, proposal preparation and report

preparation; and
Other duties as assigned.

**Qualifications**:
University degree in related field with two years supervisory experience in similar environment or

an equivalent combination of education and experience;
Experience working with a multi-cultural newcomer population;
Demonstrated knowledge of applicable principles/strategies (e.g.newcomer settlement and

integration, mentorship, work strategies);
Experience in government project management;
Familiarity with the needs of the newcomer youth and children and strong knowledge of the

community;
Successful supervisory experience with strong leadership and team building skills;
Strong organizational skills and communications skills including presentation skills;
Knowledge and understanding of Board and/or departmental policies and procedures, collective

agreements, employment/labour legislation;

Wordprocessing; and
Proven ability in promoting equitable practices which value inclusiveness and diversity.

**Special Requirements**:
Provision of own vehicle for Board business; and
Require regular travel across the TDSB.
