**What will I be doing?**
- Provide technical expertise for the delivery of heavy-rail ballasted track design projects to address existing main track curve and tangent track alignment deficiencies that will allow for the removal of slow orders and improve on-time performance.
- Evaluate each track design project and determine external support requirements including topographic surveys, legal surveys, Subsurface Utility Engineering (SUE), geotechnical, Stormwater Management (SWM) investigations, etc. and prepare technical scope of work for procurement of external support services.
- Design track alignments, profiles, and associated grading (including corridor modeling) using Autodesk Civil 3D as per GO Transit Track Standards (GTTS), AREMA guidelines, and industry track standards.
- Lead and prepare track design packages including plan and profiles, alignment tables, typical sections, grading cross-sections and details, etc. for various stages of design including conceptual, 30%, 60%, 100%, and IFC.
- Coordinate and lead technical meetings with various internal and external stakeholders and Subject Matter Experts as part of track design projects to mitigate potential maintenance concerns evolving from design/construction.
- Provide technical expertise for review of track designs and work plan methodologies (WPM) to ensure compliance and conformance with Metrolinx and industry track standards, track standard plans, and identify deviations from requisite standards.
- Support the review of deviation requests to Metrolinx standards and Transport Canada guidelines and regulations. Support further processing of deviation requests to the requisite standards, safety case development and risk management controls.
- Participate in field audits including track inspections prior to start of design projects and track in-service inspection to place track infrastructure in service.
- Participate in the research and continual development of the existing GO Transit Track Standards (GTTS) and GO Track Standard (GTS) Plans through collaboration with Metrolinx Maintenance Delivery department, consultants, contractors/suppliers and academic institutions.
- Research and review current industry best practices, track standards, technical papers to support the development of scope for procurement of professional services for the development of a comprehensive suite of engineering track standards and/or improvement of existing track standards.
- Support with development of new or improved track construction and track maintenance procedures, track design and track material standards, and specifications.
- Develop new and revise existing GTS Plans using AutoCAD software and through collaboration with track material and turnout manufacturers.

**What Skills and Qualifications Do I Need?**
- Completion of a University degree in Civil Engineering, Community College Civil Technology certification - or a combination of education, training and experience deemed equivalent.
- Minimum four (4) years of experience related to railway, passenger heavy or light rail transit systems.
- Valid Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) license, in the province of Ontario or ability to obtain P.Eng. will be considered an asset.
- Strong knowledge of track design and construction best practices of North American or European commuter and inner-city transit services.
- Proficiency with Autodesk Civil 3D software for design of horizontal and vertical track alignments, associated grading, drainage, and corridor modelling (using Civil 3D subassemblies).
- Knowledge of working with LIDAR point clouds, topographic survey files and ground surface data for design purposes.
- Strong problem solving and influencing skills to establish effective working relationships, negotiate, and deal with a variety of contacts, both internal and external to the organization along with the ability to gain cooperation from individuals not under direct authority.
- Excellent oral, written/presentation skills with a demonstrated ability to build positive and productive interpersonal relationships with stakeholders.
- Valid, non-probationary "G" Class Province of Ontario drivers’ license.
