What Is the Opportunity?
In a team based environment, you will be responsible for managing a portfolio of Canadian accounts written in support of U.S. multinational companies. Working collaboratively, you will blend a disciplined underwriting approach and effective business development strategies to reach profitability, growth and retention targets, consistent with overall business line objectives.
What Will You Do?
- Follows Best Practices, including Underwriting, Workflow and Playbook.
- Operate successfully within a collaborative underwriting environment to support the U.S. business units for Canadian in bound business.
- Independently responsible for underwriting and servicing the full life cycle of accounts (including submission, pre-quote, bind, renewal and endorsement activities).
- Strategically underwrite and price accounts in support of growth and profitability goals for your team and all lines of business including Commercial Property, Liability and Automobile (IRCA & fleet).
- Develop and maintain positive and productive relationship with local broker and U.S. underwriters.
- Make appropriate decisions within own underwriting authority in addition to considered, intelligent, and complete recommendations to segment/business leadership.
- Negotiate terms and conditions consistent with market segment requirements and standards within submission timeframe.
- Continuously manage book of business (maintain quality of business required by market segment strategy).
- Accountable for accurate underwriting documentation/ information in account management systems and adherence to documentation standards.
- Understand, embrace, execute, and foster Travelers Canada and Business Segment Guiding Principles/Best Practices.
- Minimum college diploma in insurance related program preferred.
- 4 year university degree and/or related business experience.
- Typically requires a minimum of two years Commercial Underwriting experience.
- Strong technical underwriting skills; strong knowledge company financials and business and products.
- Business Acumen understands products, financials, objectives and service requirements.
- Ability to understand and process stock calculations
- Analytical, Problem Solving & Decision Making manages own work; takes responsibility for decisions and actions; quantitative reasoning, critical thinking skills.
- Teamwork & Collaboration establishes strong relationships and networks within, the Enterprise and externally.
- Communicates and Effectively Influences Others strong interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills.

- Computer Skills Strong automation skills, including: Underwriting tools, Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.
What is a Must Have?
- Minimum 5 years Commercial Property and Casualty Underwriting with an insurance company preferred.
