Brantford, Canada Brantwood Community Services Full time

**Brantwood Community Services is seeking a Direct Support Professional to join our collaborative, diverse and dynamic team at one of our specialized behavioural support homes.**

**Key Responsibilities**:

- Provide specialized behavioural supports based on the individualized needs of persons supported (i.e., mental, physical, spiritual, behavioural, emotional)
- Assisting with personal care (bathing, meal preparation, assisting with personal tasks etc.)
- Administering medications
- Provide emotional stability in moments of crisis
- Assisting with the development of care plans and goal development
- Completing detailed documentation
- Implement and follow behaviour support plans

**Skills and Experience Required**:

- **Demonstrated knowledge, understanding and experience supporting people with severe behavioural challenges using NVCI strategies**:

- **Experience supporting individuals with multiple developmental diagnosis who communicate through non-verbal interactions**:

- **Previous experience providing behavioural redirection to potentially aggressive people supported is required; must be able to handle challenging and difficult clients/situations**:

- Previous training using bite sleeves is considered an **asset**:

- Must be able to utilize least intrusive methods of intervention
- Demonstrated ability to reduce barriers for people supported
- Demonstrated time management skills
- Demonstrated ability to facilitate full inclusion for people with developmental disabilities in their community
- Required to travel with people supports in Brantwood vehicles and on public transit within the community of Brantford and area, occasional trips out of town

**Qualifications**:

- Post-secondary diploma/degree in developmental services, or human services diploma (i.e., PSW, SSW, CYW etc.), or a minimum of 3 years combination of education and direct experience
- Valid Class G driver’s licence and an excellent driving record
- Valid Emergency First Aid, CPR and AED Level A Certification
- Current NVCI training (preferred)
- Minimum of 1 year in a direct support role
- Must be team oriented
- Applied Behaviour Analysis (ABA) considered an asset
- Autism training considered an asset

**Successful Applicants will be required to provide (prior to employment)**:

- Current Police Vulnerable Sector Check
- Brantwood Pre-employment Health Form (to be completed by your Health Care Provider)
- 3 Year Drivers Abstract
- Current Emergency First Aid & CPR/AED (Level A)
- Copy of education & qualifications.

**Job Types**: Part-time, Permanent

**Salary**: $24.43-$24.97 per hour

Expected hours: No more than 24 per week

**Experience**:

- Behavioural Support: 1 year (required)

Licence/Certification:

- Class G Licence (preferred)
