**Rosalie Hall is seeking a dynamic individual to become part of our YOW Team to make an impact on the well-being of youth in the Dorset Park Neighborhood**

This position provides a range of outreach services to individuals, families, and groups to promote positive relationships and enhance the healthy development of youth in our community. The Youth Outreach Worker (YOW) will support youth engagement programs and facilitate referrals and connections for young people to assist them with housing, education, employment, health care etc. The goal of this position is to assist youth to develop the life skills needed for a healthy lifestyle. The YOW program operates with staff located in a wide range of community agencies across Toronto. YOW’s at Rosalie Hall report to the Director Programs and are linked with the larger provincial YOW group through STRIDES (Lead Agency).

**QUALIFICATIONS**:

- Post-secondary degree/diploma in Child and Youth-related field or equivalent combination of education and experience working with youth. (bachelor’s degree in human services, psychology and sociology).
- Genuine interest in working with youth between the ages of 12-21 years in individual or group settings and a clear understanding of the characteristics of youth.
- Experience working with people of diverse socioeconomic/cultural backgrounds and strong youth engagement skills, work with young families and fathers, and strong relationship building skills to build rapport with co-workers and youth.
- Excellent interpersonal skills, adaptability and flexibility taking into consideration the unique qualities of each client while working cooperatively and effectively with a range of service providers, school systems and child welfare.
- Established case management skills including record and statistic keeping and a system of documentation and reporting that is consistent with the standards and procedures of the service delivery process.
- Weekday hours with the occasional weekend day as needed to facilitate attendance at events where youth have an opportunity to connect and build linkages.
- Regular access to a reliable vehicle for transportation.
- Valid CPR and First Aid Certificate
- Satisfactory police record check with vulnerable sector screening

**DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES**:

- Engage at-risk youth (and their families) to identify issues and barriers to accessing community services.
- Maintain positive working relationships with other professionals in communities/agencies to facilitate partnerships engaging in internal and external committees as needed.
- Fulfill brokerage/advocacy/resourcing functions that ensure youth have access to programs, services and opportunities needed for healthy development by:

- Engaging youth to identify issues, needs, goals, aspirations, skills, abilities, and services needed as well as barriers to accessing these services.
- Providing youth with information, contacts, referrals, and support to facilitate access to programs, services, and opportunities.
- Work collaboratively with youth, their families, Health Promotion officers, schools, police, and youth service providers to develop effective service delivery plans that ensure youth have access to programs, services and opportunities needed for healthy development.
- Facilitate connections between youth and their neighbourhood and promote awareness of the positive role of youth in the community.
- Maintain strength-based and evidence-informed professional standards of practice within the program, and to ensure that program service standards are in accordance with the Stages of Change model, a Positive Youth Development Framework and relevant legislation.
- Engage in regular supervision.

In collaboration with YOW Supervisor (Lead Agency) and team:

- Build an understanding of the needs, issues, goals, aspirations, skills, and abilities of youth by enhancing a composite picture of neighbourhood demographics, and building on existing maps of services, programs, and community assets available.
- Facilitate partnerships with community agencies, businesses, government, and informal community groups to offer programs using arts, culture, civic engagement, and recreation.
- Conduct further environmental scans of neighbourhoods to identify and understand emerging issues, service gaps and opportunities for action to build on community capacity.
- Provide services within an understanding of the context of oppression, poverty, and diversity.
- Identify staff development/training needs and to participate in training as offered.
- Engage parents/families where possible through existing community structures and provide education and information on issues related to youth as well as services available.
- Maintain service statistics and records of all services as required.
- Prepare and provide input to program reviews as required and ensure that documentation and service statistics are completed in
