**Main Purpose & Function**

The Planning Assistant III is in the Planning, Urban Design, and Sustainability Department - Community Planning Division. This position would provide technical and professional support to teams undertaking policy development and implementation, initially focused on work supporting the Rupert and Renfrew Station Area Plan and possibility other emergent area/neighbourhood plan work in other areas of the City.

**Specific Duties & Responsibilities**

Many of the duties associated with this position will involve support to planning professionals who are undertaking land use and built form analysis, preparing policies and presentations, and working with both the community and other agencies to ensure visions established through our community plans are implemented and build towards a healthier, more sustainable and equitable city. Duties will include:

- Organizing and attending stakeholder meetings, workshops, public open houses and other engagement events, including logistics, advertisement materials, information boards, translated text, presentations and other materials.
- Preparing graphics and other communication materials for public open house and other engagement events including survey, open house boards, reports, presentations, newsletters and content for project website.
- Convening meetings and supporting collaboration with other City departments or external agencies, including sending out invitations, preparing agendas, taking meeting notes and following up on action items.
- Conducting surveys, research, data collection and analysis tasks (involving quantitative and qualitative data) to support policy review and development.
- Preparing studies and analysis related to current zoning, policy and trends.
- Performing other related duties/responsibilities as assigned.

**Qualifications**

Education and Experience:

- Completion of twelfth school grade or equivalent in Technical or Vocational school supplemented or including courses in drafting or graphics, along with Planning Assistant II experience or technical work experience of a planning nature or any equivalent combination of education and experience.
- University degree in Planning or a related discipline would be considered an asset.
- Familiarity with rezoning processes and a working knowledge of zoning and land-use regulations, land development economics and urban design principles is strongly preferred.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

- Ability to work independently, on teams, and with the public, to complete assignments using sound professional techniques and judgment.
- Proven ability to self-manage workload and meet time demands (e.g., prioritize tasks, communicate expected time frames for the delivery of items with staff and request assistance when needed).
- Strong interpersonal and communications skills (written and verbal).
- Demonstrated sound research and analytical abilities and experience.
- Working knowledge of zoning and land-use planning and regulations, land development economics, public space planning, and urban design principles.
- Ability to occasionally work outside typical business hours to accommodate meetings and consultation initiatives.
- Capability to read and write in a language/s other than English or French, is an asset.
