**Main Purpose & Function**
The Planning Assistant III will work as part of the planning team in the Special Projects Office, initially responsible for the implementation of the Broadway Plan. Key responsibilities will be providing general engagement and technical support for implementation of the Broadway Plan, reporting to a Senior Planner in the Special Projects Office. Over time, the position may also become involved in other Special Projects Office work, which currently includes the implementation of the Northeast False Creek Plan, Central Waterfront planning, UBCx planning and the Jericho Lands.

**Specific Duties & Responsibilities**
- The assistant proactively works to support the Broadway Plan team with public and stakeholder engagement, technical work, and ongoing planning-related activities.
- Activities will include implementing engagement plans (internal, stakeholder and public) and planning programs; and establishing relationships and liaising with a variety of internal and external contacts.
- Provide general support for the planning team, including but not limited to: graphics support, mapping, data analysis, policy research, and responding to public enquiries.
- Provide professional services for the delivery of specific engagement tactics - particularly the execution of public events and workshops, as well as coordination of online/virtual engagement tools and activities.
- Schedule and execute events and activities to meet engagement objectives and outcomes, coordinate logistics, take notes as required, and prepare meeting minutes and event summaries.
- Draft content for public distribution, moderate online tool use, and lead report backs of event outcomes, including timely input analysis, graphics and web presence.

**Qualifications**

Education and Experience:

- Completion of grade 12 supplemented by courses in urban planning, graphics, and/or related courses or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
- Experience in planning, community engagement, graphics, and/or urban design is preferred.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

- Proven experience in executing comprehensive public and stakeholder engagement processes.
- Expertise in a wide range of in-person and online/virtual engagement tactics, including demonstrated facilitation and public engagement experience.
- Demonstrated ability to build strong relationships with the local residents and businesses.
- Familiarity with the City’s Zoning and Development By-law, area plans, and land use policies and guidelines is an asset.
- A strong cultural awareness of Indigenous and diverse cultural communities.
- Experience in the use of social media and innovative, online/virtual engagement tools.
- Strong verbal, written, graphical and visual presentation skills.
- Strong reporting, analytical, and evaluation skills.
- Knowledge of civic sustainability, urban design and community planning issues.
- Strong computer and graphics knowledge with MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop), SketchUp and ArcGIS Pro.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently as well as part of inter-disciplinary work teams, to multi-task, and to work within defined timelines is essential as are initiative and enthusiasm for public engagement.
- Experience working with multicultural communities or cultural connections would be assets.
- Familiarity with rezoning processes and a working knowledge of zoning and land-use regulations, land development economics and urban design principles is strongly preferred.

A current and valid Class 5 BC Driver’s License is a requirement of this position. The license must not include any restrictions that would affect the ability to legally and safely carry out job response.

The City’s COVID-19 vaccination policy is currently suspended and as a result, vaccination against COVID-19 is not required at this time.
