**Duties and Responsibilities**:
Reporting to the Communications and Content Editor and following the general direction and guidance of the Dean relating to the Faculty’s priorities, the Communications Writer works closely with their colleagues as a member of the Faculty’s communications team to create communications content in various media for internal and external audiences. Their work is particularly aimed at enhancing the Faculty’s efforts on student and faculty recruitment, retention, research and advancement priorities.

The Communications Writer works with the Undergraduate Affairs team, Associate Deans, academic units and others across the University to create engaging original content for use across various external and internal sources and sites, including websites and social media platforms, print and electronic magazines, and report content. The incumbent is responsible for writing stories and posts on research carried out by faculty members and students, events and guest speakers, programs of study available across the Faculty, recruitment information for prospective students, alumni profiles, scriptwriting for videos and podcasts, and progress reports in relation to the Faculty’s strategic plan, among others.

The incumbent also will liaise with, and provide article and web writing training and guidance to, members of ODFASS as well as FASS Departmental Chairs/Directors and Administrators.

**Qualifications**:
**The incumbent must possess the following qualifications**:

- Exceptional writing, editing and proofreading skills, with high standards for quality.
- Proficient in several writing styles including online news writing, long-form written articles, speech writing, video scripting, marketing copy, and annual reports.
- Must be able to research and compose compelling original stories/articles.
- Must be able to understand and write effectively about the often-complex work of academic researchers across many diverse disciplines represented within the Faculty.
- Excellent interviewing skills.
- Excellent interpersonal and oral communication skills.
- Exceptional initiative, reliability, and judgment.
- Superior ability in the use of Microsoft Office Suite.
- Must be able to use WordPress and other web publishing software.
- Must be able to prioritize and meet timelines.
- Must be able to adapt to the working styles and direction of several different leaders.
- Must be able to work collaboratively as part of a team.
- Must be able to work with mínimal supervision and be self-motivated.
- Must be able to be flexible and change direction as necessary.
- Must be a creative thinker.
- Must be a prolific and quick writer.

**Education and Experience**:
**The above is normally acquired through the completion of**:

- Honours degree in Journalism, Communications, or English, or a university degree and additional training in the fields of public relations, marketing or communications. Post-graduate work in one of these areas would be a considerable strength.
- An academic background in a humanities or social science discipline will be a significant asset.
- Five years of previous related work experience in communications, preferably in an academic setting.
