(Part-Time)
**POSITION SYNOPSIS AND PURPOSE**:
Reporting to the Airport Manager, the Airport Grounds Maintenance operates light, medium and heavy equipment while carrying out maintenance activities on Airport infrastructure, buildings and equipment.
The Airport Grounds Maintenance work is to ensure compliance with Transport Canada legislation and regulations and airport policies and procedures while contributing to the safe operation of the airport for pilots, passangers and commercial tenants.
**MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES**:
Operations and Grounds Maintenance
- Operates a range of equipment to maintain the Airport infrastructure including runways, ramps, aprons, tie-downs, parking, airfield electrical systems, fencing and landscaped areas.
- Performs year-round operations such as: snow sweeping, plowing, blowing; runway ice prevention, aircraft de-icing; airside lawn maintenance and weed control, tree pruning, excavation and construction of tie downs, asphalt repair, grading and drainage repairs, runway line-painting; pick-up and disposal of debris.
- Performs other such duties as may be assigned.

Equipment Maintenance
- Assists the Airport Manager in the assessment of equipment and building, repairs and servicing including vehicles.

Health and Safety
This position must take responsibility for personal health and safety insofar as he or she is able under the Occupational Health and Safety Act and its Regulations. A worker must:

- Work in compliance with the provisions of the Act, the regulations and City policies.
- Must use or wear the equipment, protective devices or clothing that the City requires to be used or worn.
- Report to his or her supervisor the absence of or defect in any equipment or protective device of which the worker is aware and which may endanger himself, herself or another worker.
- Report to his or her supervisor any contravention of the Act, the regulations or the existence of any hazard of which he or she knows.

**This position shall not**:

- Remove or make ineffective any protective device required by regulations or by the City, without providing an adequate temporary protective device and when the need for removing or making ineffective the protective device has ceased, the protective device shall be replaced immediately.
- Use or operate any equipment, machine, device or thing or work in a manner that may endanger himself, herself or any other worker.
- Engage in any prank, contest, feat of strength, unnecessary running or rough and boisterous conduct.

**Note**: The duties and responsibilities outlined above are representative but not all-inclusive.
All activities are expected to be performed in a safe manner in accordance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act and its Regulations along with Corporate Safety policies, procedures and programs. In addition, all necessary personal protective equipment must be used and maintained in good condition. This position must be compliant with all provisions of the Occupational Health and Safety Act, related to "Duties of a Worker".
**MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS**:
Education (degree/diploma/certifications)
- Secondary School Graduation Diploma or equivalent
- Restricted Radio Operator’s Licence
- Possession and Acquisition Licence (PAL) - Firearms Certification

Experience
- Minimum two (2) years’ operating medium to large equipment such as loaders, tractors, snowplows, sweepers and mowers

Knowledge/Skill/Ability
- Demonstrated proficiency in the operation of a variety of equipment ranging from hand-held to large equipment for both indoor and outdoor operations.

Driver’s Licence
- Ontario Driver Record required.
- Must possess a valid Class "G" Ontario Driver's Licence and access to reliable transportation.
- Must possess a valid Class “DZ” Ontario Driver’s Licence.

Other
- Satisfactory Police Record Check.

**HOURS OF WORK**:

- The St. Thomas Municipal Airport is open 363 days a year. This position may be required to attend when flights are incoming, during a weather event (snow clearing) or when other impromptu maintenance issues arise. Hours, days and length of shift varies depending on the nature and severity of the issue to be addressed. Snow clearing often begins at 4:00am to ensure that runways are open during regular hours of operation.

**WORK LOCATION**:

- St. Thomas Municipal Airport, 44989 Talbot Line, St. Thomas.

**WAGES**:

- $18.74 per hour (January 1, 2024 rate) plus 4% vacation pay on each pay.
