A Day in the Life

Reporting to the Manager, Faculty and Staff Relations, this position provides critical advice and expertise in assigned areas of responsibility, with a view to creating and maintaining constructive and principled relationships with the University’s unions (including union leadership) and non-union employees. This is accomplished by interpreting relevant policies, legislation and collective agreements in order to properly advise stakeholders.

As the Faculty and Staff Relations Advisor, you will:

- Advise supervisors, managers and Human Resources (HR) colleagues on the interpretation of relevant policies, collective agreements, legislation (e.g. Human Rights Code, Employment Standards Act, Labour Relations Act, etc.) and other terms and conditions of employment, ensuring that all relevant legislated, collective agreement and policy driven obligations of the University are met;
- Act as the first point of contact in Human Resources for employee and labour relations issues, responding as necessary and escalating to management where appropriate;
- Support the resolution of complaints and grievances by conducting investigations, as well as grievance hearings and preparing materials for arbitration as required and assigned;
- Coach and advise supervisors and managers on issues related to employee performance management, ensuring compliance with applicable legislation, policies and collective agreements and referring to HR colleagues as appropriate;
- Act as a member of the University’s bargaining committee for assigned union groups (subset of nine total) during the collective bargaining process, which includes conducting research, analyzing data, preparing proposals, and performing other duties (such as scribing) as assigned/required by the Chief Negotiator;
- Participate in the resolution of issues related to (or that may lead to) discipline and dismissal, including conducting workplace investigations as assigned.

We will consider recent Human Resources or Labour Relations graduates.

**Salary**: $61,998.00-$88,270.00 per year
