**Scope of the Position**

The purpose of this Director at Landmark East School is to ensure that middle school teacher’s qualifications and skill sets are aligned with students’ strengths and needs for whom they have responsibility in terms of instruction, assessment and classroom management. This individual functions under the direction of, will report directly to, and will be appraised on an annual basis by, the Head of School based on the specific responsibilities and duties listed below.

**General/Global Responsibilities**

1. Contribute to the maintenance of the integrity of the Landmark East School vision and mission brand.

2. Contribute to the maintenance of the integrity of the Landmark East School program/curriculum.

3. Interact positively with parents, students, faculty and staff in meeting the educational, social and physical needs of the student body.

4. Play a key role on the Landmark East School Leadership Team and the Admissions Committee.

**Administrative Responsibilities**
- Contribute to the selection and admission process of middle school students.
- Collaborate with the Head of School and other members of the Leadership Team regarding professional development priorities and plans.
- Collaborate with the Head of School regarding performance appraisals of middle school teachers.
- Lead middle school team meetings.
- Collaborate with the Head of School with respect to reporting to parents/guardians during regular reporting periods.
- Collaborate with the Head of School regarding teachers’ communications with parents/guardians of middle school students.
- Take the lead on investigation and follow-up of disciplinary matters associated with middle school students.
- Collaborate with the Social-Emotional Learning Coordinator, Elementary Director and High School Director (and Student Life Director, where applicable) to determine appropriate restorative measures. The Head of School will be included when serious disciplinary matters arise (such as those that could lead to expulsion).
- Collaborate with the Elementary and High School Directors in the selection of new and substitute teachers for middle school grades.
- Contact substitute teachers (external and internal) as needed throughout the school year and coordinate their teaching assignments.
- Collaborate with the Elementary and High School Directors to track and report teachers’ personal days and sick days.
- In collaboration with the Elementary and High School Directors, organize and deliver orientation sessions for new teaching staff.
- Participate and serve on the Study Hall Review Committee.
- Serve on Landmark East School committees such as graduation, awards, social committee, events and student leadership.
- Collaborate with the members of the Leadership Team to plan school events throughout the year.
- Collaborate with the Head of School and other members of the Leadership Team to develop monthly agendas for staff meetings.
- Any other duties as requested by the Head of School.

**Academic Responsibilities**
- Collaborate with the Elementary and High School Directors and the Literacy Coordinator about matters relating to middle school programming.
- Support middle school teachers with yearly planning and course design.
- Design initial learner profile and student passports for each middle school student and oversee ongoing revisions as required.
- Collaborate with the Literacy Coordinator to oversee the resource intervention plan (formerly known as IPP’s), adaptations and program planning meetings with teachers and parents of middle school students.
- Collaborate with the Elementary and High School Directors to oversee standardized achievement testing.
- Oversee the management of Nova Scotia provincial assessments.
- Collaborate with the Elementary and High School Directors to oversee the middle school program descriptions for approval by the Nova Scotia Department of Education.
- Collaborate with the Elementary and High School Directors to oversee the implementation of the Nova Scotia Public School Program (PSP) as appropriate to the needs of middle school students.
- Collaborate with the Elementary and High School Directors to communicate to teachers, parents and students about matters relating to middle school programming.
- Collaborate with the Elementary and High School Directors to schedule academic classes and individual timetables for teachers and students.
- Collaborate with the Literacy Coordinator, Elementary and High School Directors to plan, evaluate and facilitate curriculum development for middle school students for their intensive support class.
- Facilitate the acquisition of academic resources as required for middle school (excluding literacy-related resources).
- Guide and support new and substitute middle school teachers.
- Collaborate with the Elementary and High School Directors regarding transition planning for middle school students with respect to both entry to
