Pay: $19.67 - $22.13 per hour

**Job Type**: Part-Time: 20 hours per week (Monday to Friday)

**Job Description**:
Horton High Childcare Centre is seeking a part-time level 1 classified assistant ECE to work a total of four-hours per day, twenty-hours per week. Although the hours will mainly stay the same, there will be opportunities for you to work extra hours by covering staff sickness or other absences.

This part-time position requires the applicant to take on various roles and responsibilities within the centre, so is best suited for those that are able to be flexible and have previous knowledge and experience working in a fast-paced child care environment.

About our Centre:
Horton High Childcare Centre is a small child care centre attached to a high school located in
Wolfville, NS. With only ten children in attendance at any one time and three other full-time staff members, our centre has a comfortable friendly family feel. Being attached to a high school means that our centre only operates during school months and closes for Winter break, March break and the Summer vacation months.

Education and Training Requirements:
Valid Level 1 or above Nova Scotia ECE Certification.
Current First Aid Certification that includes infant/child CPR/AED.
Vulnerable Sector Check (we can provide a letter to be taken to a local RCMP detachment).

**Job Description**:

- Ensure the safety and well-being of children at all times
- Prepare snacks for children
- Assist lead ECEs in classrooms with children during transition times (getting ready to go outside, toileting and preparing for nap time, other transitions during the day)
- Cover ECE lunch breaks during children's rest time
- Assist with maintaining the cleanliness of the kitchen space and food preparation areas
- Assist with household duties such as laundry and washing/sanitizing toys and classroom equipment
- Occasionally plan and organize age-appropriate activities based on the interests of children
- Participate in ongoing training and professional development to maintain certification
- Maintain effective communication with children, staff and caregivers
- Provide coverage in the infant room on a regular basis to allow the assistant director to step out of program
- Flexibly work the occasional full-day to cover any ECE sickness or other absences

Additional Requirements:

- Only seeking applicants currently residing in Nova Scotia. We are unable to sponsor any individual due to the small size of our program
- MUST have reliable transportation to and from our centre (we are NOT on a public transit route)
- Flexible and passionate about working with young children
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
- Ability to carry infants and assist with basic infant care
- Collaborative and works well in a team
- Able to provide two references for work or experience related to early childhood care and education
- Preparedness for outdoor activities and changing weather conditions
