**Nature and Scope**
The Prior Learning Assessment and Recognition (PLAR) Assessor reports directly to the INECE Program Coordinator. The PLAR assessor will primarily assess the Prior Learning Assessment and Recognition (PLAR) of Indigenous Early Childhood Education students. This position will positively promote and create an environment that demonstrates SIIT's vision, mission, and mandate.
**General Accountability**
The PLAR Assessor will be responsible for marking INECE student's PLAR assignments. Prior learning assessment and recognition (PLAR) is a process that allows individuals to obtain academic credit by demonstrating they have acquired the necessary skills and knowledge through life experiences. The Assessor will be responsible for marking Levels 1, 2, and 3 ECE PLAR assignments using the online platform. This position will include remote work. This position includes the following broad areas of accountability:
**Specific Accountabilities**
**_ Administration & Student Success_**
- Follow procedures for marking and scoring PLAR assignments
- Working collaboratively with the INECE Coordinators and Instructors to ensure PLAR assessment deadlines are met
- Use knowledge and critical thinking to evaluate assignments and provide appropriate recommendations or feedback
- Maintain an in-depth understanding of course/program content and program requirements to effectively evaluate assignments
- Adhere to PLAR policies and procedures
- Adhere to and promote academic regulations and SIIT's policies and procedures
- Respect, honor and acknowledge the uniqueness of each student, including their unique languages, cultures, traditions, histories and prior learning and life experiences
- Develop and maintain respectful relations through the use of problem-solving and constructive resolution
- Ensure a positive, diverse and inclusive work environment
**Required Qualifications and Experience**: A Bachelor of Education degree is preferred; experience and knowledge of PLAR assessment are considered assets. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered. Knowledge of First Nations' culture and organizations would be an asset.
