The Trailer Maintenance Technician will contribute to the overall success of Oshki-Pimache-O-Win: The Wenjack Education Institute by using their skills, knowledge and experience to operate and maintain Oshki-Wenjack vehicles, trucks and trailers. Under the direction of the Trades and Innovation Director, the Trailer Maintenance Technician is responsible for the maintenance and general repair of all Oshki-Wenjack Trucks, Trailers and vehicles. The Trailer Maintenance Technician is also responsible for mentoring, on-the-job teaching and training of designated apprentices/interns.

**KEY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES**
- Diagnose and repair trucks and trailers.
- Identify and determine parts required for repair of truck and trailers.
- Perform all levels of preventive maintenance services.
- Schedule and coordinate annual safety inspections.
- Supervise and be responsible for assigned apprentice/intern.
- Road test vehicles when necessary to diagnose malfunctions or verify repair resolution.
- Procure, Track and maintain inventory of trades tools and equipment.
- Load and unload trades tools, equipment and materials from container to trailers.
- Coordinate mobilization and demobilization of trailers to and from training

locations.
- Be on-call to service trailers at training locations when training programs are

active.
- Maintain an organized work site and adhere to all safety policies and procedures.
- Adjust, repair or replace parts and components of truck and trailers including

chassis, frame, fuel, hydraulic, HVAC, electrical and electronic systems.
- Submit reports to supervisor, as requested.

**Other Duties & Responsibilities**
- Take personal responsibility to increase sensitivity, awareness and implementation
of Oshki-Wenjack’s cultural teachings and organizational practices in both
professional conduct and work-related deliverables.
- Access and utilize Elders and Knowledge holders for teachings and guidance as it
relates to work deliverables.
- Work from a trauma-informed perspective, utilizing the teachings of the medicine
wheel and Seven Grandfather teachings.
- Be prepared to work in conjunction with the philosophy and mandate of the
Institute.
- Adhere to the Policies and Procedures as set by the Institute.
- Representation on committees as required for the enhancement and benefits of
Oshki-Wenjack’s overall operations and programs.
- Always maintain professionalism.
- Adhere to the Code of Ethics and positive relationship building.
- Regular attendance and conduct at work according to the requirements of Oshki
- Wenjack’s Policies and Procedures.
- Any other duties as requested by the Trades and Innovation Director, or designate,
commensurate with role.

**KEY PERFORMANCE INDICATORS**
- Personal responsibility has been taken to increase sensitivity and awareness of the
NAN communities and Indigenous culture.
- Developed and maintained preventative maintenance plan and inventory tracking.
- Ability to meet target dates for mobilization and demobilization of trailers at
designated training locations.
- Demonstrated leadership and coaching skills.
- Ability to meet deadlines and submit reports in a timely manner.

**RELATIONSHIP OF INDICATORS TO PERFORMANCE DEVELOPMENT AND REVIEW PLAN**

This position descriptions operates in conjunction with and forms part of the annual review/evaluation and career development process. An initial review will take place during the probationary period following commencement of employment with Trades and Innovation Director and then annually with Trades and Innovation Director.

**QUALIFICATIONS**

**Required**
- Truck-Trailer Service Technician Red Seal, Heavy Duty Mechanic Red Seal, along with
3 to 5 years of experience preferably in a post-secondary setting. Equivalencies may
be considered.
- 3-5 years of experience working in an Indigenous organization with a focus on
northern communities.
- Valid Ontario Class A-Z Driver’s License

**Preferred**
- Ability to speak an Indigenous Language is considered an asset.

**ACCOUNTABILITY**

The Trailer Maintenance Technician will be directly accountable to the Trades and Innovation Director for the proper completion of the functions outlined in the job description.

The Trailer Maintenance Technician will be accountable to the President for overall work performance according to the Personnel Policies and Procedures.

**WORKING CONDITIONS**

The Trailer Maintenance Technician will primarily work at Staal Contracting and may work at multiple work locations and in northern Ontario remote communities. The work environment may be indoor and outdoors, and in varied weather conditions.

**ADDITIONAL INFORMATION**

The Trailer Maintenance Technician is based at the Centennial Square Campus; however, all employees may be required to work across others sites or at home from time to time.
