**Function & Overview**

Reporting to the Unit Manager - Lifelong Learning, the Achievement Centre (AC) Educator & Coordinator is responsible for effective and efficient management and delivery of programs designed to meet the needs of individual adult learners, the organization and the community. This includes but is not limited to the Indigenous Literacy Basic Skills Program.

The AC Educator & Coordinator helps plan and organize programs and activities through a variety of administrative and program management tasks. The AC Educator and Coordinator pursues new program opportunities and creates, modifies, and conducts courses, programs, and activities, community liaising, 1:1 program instruction, and assisting with other duties as needed to uphold organizational operations are key functions of the role. The Achievement Center Educator & Coordinator is required to perform all duties consistent with the governance values and operating policies of Six Nations Polytechnic (SNP) while fostering positive relations with staff, students, stakeholders, and the community; contributing to a culturally supportive teaching, learning and work environment consistent with Hodinǫshǫ:nih/Rotinonhson:ni values of Ga’nigohi:yo:/Kanikoriio (Respect and the Good Mind).

**Duties**

The duties of the Achievement Centre Educator & Coordinator include, without limitation:
**Learner Recruitment and Planning**
- Developing and implementing recruitment and retention strategies to attract and retain learners;
- Preparing and carrying out an ongoing action plan to attract new learners going forward;
- Creating an annual work plan;
- Identifying, creating, adapting and conducting programming activities by incorporating effective learning tools and supports, such as digital technology;
- Preparing and delivering presentations, newsletters, workshops and other correspondence as directed;
- Recruiting and training volunteers (keeping a database of volunteer information and skills, matching volunteers to opportunities/learners that suit their skills, and keeping volunteers informed of accomplishments and events);
- Assisting in establishing work priorities in coordination with Unit Manager - Lifelong Learning for the AC Assistant and all activities related to the role;
- Taking responsibility to increase sensitivity, awareness, and implementation of cultural teachings and organizational practices in a professional manner;

**Adult Learner Education**
- Conducting individual needs assessments and learning plans for each client; administering appropriate milestone assessments, and determining transition readiness based on assessing outcomes;
- Planning and preparing relevant and practical lessons;
- Delivering relevant and practical lessons (pre-GED, one-on-one tutoring);
- Providing opportunities to learners for self-reflection and self-evaluation;
- Build an environment that is conductive to learning and appropriate for mature learners;

**Administration**
- Completing Ministry/funding reports monthly, quarterly and annually;
- Completing annual work plan and program budget expenditures;
- Collecting, maintaining and sharing a current inventory list of supplies and materials;
- Assisting with other program workshop preparation and monitoring, as required;
- Assisting the Unit Manager-Lifelong Learning with various administration functions; and
- Other related duties, as required.

**Qualifications**

**Education and Experience**:

- Post-secondary degree/diploma in Social Sciences, Education or related field;
- Minimum 3 years’ experience working with adult learners from diverse backgrounds; and
- Experience as an educator in adult literacy and virtual GED math, with a background in program management is an asset.

**Knowledge, Skills and Abilities**:

- Ability to teach learners of diverse abilities and backgrounds and overcome barriers to success in a multi-level class; interest of learners;
- Effective classroom management skills;
- Ability and flexibility to work at both SNP campuses, as required;
- Excellent communication skills with an emphasis on written expression (i.e., faultless spelling and grammar and professional capacity to work both independently and in a team setting, demonstrating Hodinǫshǫ:nih values of Ga'nigohi:yo:;
- Excellent communication and customer service skills; dedicated to building and managing relationships with co-workers, students and external contacts;
