Six Nations Polytechnic (SNP) is a unique Indigenous Institute, recognized by community, government, and institutions of higher learning, as a Centre of Excellence for Indigenous Knowledge. SNP offers postsecondary, secondary, trades education and training. SNP has formal partnerships with nine publicly funded Ontario Universities and Colleges and collaborates with six Ontario-based Indigenous owned and controlled post-secondary Institutes.
**Function & Overview**
Under the supervision of the Director - Academic Programs, the Unit Manager - University shares responsibility for designing, organizing, reviewing, and maintaining all aspects of the planning, delivery, and quality assurance of university programming and related services for Six Nations Polytechnic. The Unit Manager - University is required to perform all duties consistent with the governance values and operating policies of Six Nations Polytechnic (SNP) while fostering positive relations with staff, students, stakeholders, and the community; contributing to a culturally supportive teaching, learning and work environment consistent with Hodinǫshǫ:nih/Rotinonhson:ni values of Ga’nigohi:yo:/Kanikoriio (Respect and the Good Mind).
**Duties**
The duties of the Unit Manager - University include, without limitation:
**Academic Development**
- Establishing program and educational project development portfolios, initiating the development of new courses, programs, or other initiatives, as appropriate, and according to the set academic governance process;
- Drafting the 5-year programming critical path; as well as an implementation plan;
- Spearheading the design and implementation of a leading-edge curriculum that attracts and challenges students, promotes the highest quality education and utmost professional competence and meets the highest delivery standards in Indigenous pedagogy; and which aligns with the strategic priorities outlined in the Academic Plan, curriculum metrics; community orientation, and responsiveness to present and future student needs and interests;
- Supporting institution-wide Strategic Enrolment Management visioning, design, and implementation of the SNP SEM Plan;
**Program Planning, Delivery, Review, and Continuous Quality Assurance**
- Supporting cyclic self-studies of all academic portfolios in delivery;
- Liaising with Registrar/Student Affairs to meet regulatory and community-mandated requirements of learner involvement in and student-oriented elements of academic quality assurance;
- Producing the annual 18-Month Program Plan, detailing all degree and language sub-degree course offerings, and providing enrolment feasibility assessments (showing enrolment maxima and mínima) and student progression mapping for all continuing students, assuring that learners have access to the courses that facilitate progress toward their academic credential(s);
- Facilitating degree and language sub-degree curriculum revisions and the implementation of new university and language programs and courses, as approved by the Academic Governance Team;
- Participating in Strategic Enrolment Management planning, under the guidance of the Registrar’s Office; advance targeted recruitment strategies; and support the creation and dissemination of recruitment materials;
- Overseeing contributions from the degree and language sub-degree programs to relevant promotional publications, including the annual _Viewbook;_
- In each term, facilitate Instructor and Teaching Assistant orientation sessions, onboarding new and welcoming back returning (contract) teaching staff; and update the _Teaching Staff Handbook _(Six Nations Campus);
- Acting as official Unit liaison to Student Affairs, advising on and contributing to processes that support learners in degree and language programs;
- Performing credit transfer assessments and adjudicate course waivers and permissions, evaluating applicants’ prior academic achievements against course learning outcomes; and implement INC standing determinations, including interim marks and follow-ups for grade reversions;
- At the midpoint of each academic term, review grades submissions to identify students at risk and forward any concerns to Student Affairs, coordinating Instructor engagement and student-side interventions in support of these learner(s); serve as Unit signatory for the verification of university
- side grades submissions; submit midterm and end-of-term Grade Forms and the Grades Tracking Workbook to the Records Officer; and adjudicate grade appeals forwarded by the Registrar’s Office;
- Two weeks prior to the start of every academic term, review course syllabi, verifying that, per regulatory requirements, course assignments, tests, and examinations are varied from year to year, and student protection standards are satisfied, including the provision of 20-30% of course grades prior to the course withdrawal date; and pursue necessary changes with Instructors prior to the commencement of classes;
