**Penelakut Tribe Employment Opportunity Position**: Principal Salary : Commensurate with experience and Penelakut Education Salary Grid Term : Full Time Deadline for Applications: Open until filled Penelakut Island Elementary School is located on Penelakut Island off the shore of Chemainus B.C. The school has an average student enrolment of 80 students and delivers the current BC Curriculum to its Pre-K to Grade 8 students. We offer a 4-day work week, with operation Monday to Thursday 7:45 a.m. to 4:15 p.m.

We offer a generous salary and benefits package after a 3-month probationary period. Penelakut Tribe also offers water taxi transportation for staff members. Penelakut Tribe is looking for a Principal for the Penelakut Island Elementary School. The Principal is responsible for the overall management of Penelakut Island Elementary School, including the development and administration of the school's budgets, research and preparation of funding, grant proposals, supervision and evaluation of teachers and support staff, recommend and implement all school policies and regulations.

The Principal reports to the Education Director and serves as the educational leader to ensure that all students are supervised in a safe learning environment. Achieving academic excellence requires that the Principal work collaboratively to direct and nurture all members of the school staff and to communicate effectively with parents. GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES Directly responsible for all Penelakut Tribe school programs and personnel, including extensive non-routine work involving new or constantly changing complexities, with little or no established methods or procedures. Create goals and benchmarks for students and teachers alike to track progress.

Develop programs to improve overall student and teacher performance. Provide leadership in the integration of Penelakut culture, values and language in classroom activities. Prepare a variety of written and financial reports, including FNESC reports, internal reports, budgets, and invoice coding. Coordinate staff professional development events.

Provide direction and oversight for curriculum and delivery of curriculum to the established standards. Financial responsibilities include forecasting, monitoring, controlling and approving all revenue and expenditures, in consultation with the Tribes Administrator and Chief Financial Officer, prepare and administer annual school budgets and provide quarterly financial reports. Support and offer service and direction to students, stakeholders and staff. Supervise, evaluate, and discipline of Penelakut Tribe School personnel.

Create a positive school culture focused on meeting the needs of all learners. Other duties related to the position. QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE, AND EXPERIENCE : Masters Degree or equivalent in a relevant field (education or educational leadership) (or demonstrated commitment to obtain Master's Degree). Valid BC Professional Teaching Certificate and proof of and in current good standing with the BC Teachers Regulation Branch.

Experience working with First Nations students or schools is preferred. Experience in a senior leadership role in a school setting. An understanding and appreciation of First Nations, specifically, Coast Salish culture and history. Knowledge of First Nations Education Steering Committee and First Nations Schools Association.
