As the Branch Head Librarian, you will have the exciting opportunity to manage a library and actively promote the services of Winnipeg Public Library for the City of Winnipeg.

**As the **_Branch Head Librarian_**, you will**:

- Supervise the work of the Branch staff including training and evaluating their performance.
- Plan and schedule the work within the Branch.
- Provide information and reference services to adults and children.
- Participate in collection maintenance and development, ensuring proper processing and repair of materials and book sale as required.
- Participate in the preparation, delivery and/or promotion of library materials, and services such as regular story hours, Branch programs, displays, etc.
- Prepare monthly statistical reports.
- Make recommendations regarding the maintenance and physical appearance of the Branch.
- Handle contentious interpretations of library rules and regulations.
- Participate as a member of a group of colleagues in discussing and making recommendations regarding library procedures.
- Identify community needs and plan programs and collection development to meet those needs.
- Engage with the community to build Library awareness.
- Perform other duties consistent with the classification, as required.

**Your education and qualifications include**:

- Graduation from an accredited School of Library Science (M.L.S. or B.L.S.)
- Demonstrated ability to plan and supervise the work of others.
- Thorough knowledge of library procedures and materials.
- Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
- Demonstrated ability to deal effectively with the public and staff.
- Good planning and organizational skills.
- Knowledge and understanding of the occupational hazards, safety precautions, regulations and procedures that are applicable to the area of work.
- Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships with employees at all levels of the organization, external contacts and the public, in accordance with the Respectful Workplace Policy.
