After School Program Leader

**The After-School Program Leader works together with the ASP Manager and Assistant to develop and implement educational, recreational, social, and leadership programs for newcomer children in a school setting. Operating during the critical after-school hours, the program goal is to nurture a sense of belonging, instill confidence and foster leadership skills among children, assisting them in reaching their full potential. This vision is realized through a diverse range of educational, creative, and recreational activities, in a safe and empowering environment enriched by positive mentorship.**

**ASP LEADER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES**:
- Work together with ASP manager, assistant and volunteers
- Together with the ASP manager and team, develop, and implement a high-quality afterschool program for children ages 6-12 that responds to the dynamic needs of the newcomer community and adheres to program objectives
- Collaborate together with ASP manager to create weekly and monthly program plans
- Develop and implement program strategies to encourage and inspire confidence, leadership skills and self-regulation among participants
- Set up and clean up of activities
- Ensure a safe and welcoming environment
- Attend monthly staff meetings
- Other tasks as assigned by ASP Manager
**REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS**:
- Previous experience working with children or youth or relevant training
- Ability to work under supervision and as a team player
- Understanding of cross-cultural issues, the immigration process, the refugee experience, and of the systemic and social barriers to community integration faced by newcomer children
- Strong written and oral English communication skills
- Class 4 driver’s license (providing clean driving abstract)
- Access to personal vehicle to transport program supplies, snacks
- Ability to present a current Criminal Record Check and maintain a clear Vulnerable Sector Check
- Second language an asset
- First aid an asset
**HOURS OF WORK**:This is a part time position of 15 hours/week.
