Halifax, Canada Build NS Full time

**Seasonal Opportunity**
Property Attendant - Halifax & Dartmouth Waterfront

**About Build Nova Scotia**
Build Nova Scotia is the Province's Crown Corporation responsible for leading sustainable development of high-potential property and infrastructure across our province to drive economic and population growth. In short, we build things-and how we build them matters as much as what we build. We engage Nova Scotia's diverse communities to lead and support projects that create inclusive, sustainable places that people love. We leverage our projects and programs as tools to bring people together in pursuit of keeping Nova Scotians healthy, connected, and thriving no matter where they live. A thriving community is a powerful thing, and we're doing our part to help communities reach their full potential by stewarding projects that enhance quality of life and community well-being, build local pride and momentum, and grow our economy.

**Closes: March 24, 2023, 4:30 PM (AST)**

**Description**: Reporting to the Senior Maintenance Technician and or Maintenance Manager, Property Attendants are the face of Build Nova Scotia on the ground, working to enhance our property and, at times, marina presentation and cleanliness, assisting with special events, providing information to visitors, and other duties as may be required. Ultimately, Property Attendants work to ensure all visitors enjoy a world-class experience each time they visit. No doubt it's hard work, but who doesn't love working next to the water's edge?

This position is responsible for ensuring the cleanliness and presentation of the Halifax waterfront, and other properties as may be necessary, and to ensure key infrastructure is maintained to the highest standards. As front-line staff representing Build Nova Scotia, this position requires individuals with excellent customer service skills and an engaging personality. While this position is part of a small team that requires a high degree of cooperation with other staff members, once trained, they are often working independently. It also entails various tasks supporting marina operations, events and other functions of the waterfront.

**Compensation**:$15.30 to $18.49 per hour (commensurate with experience), approximately 37.5 hours per week.

**Term**:May 2, 2023 - August 31, 2023. Day, evening and weekend shift work required. Persons able to work through the end of September or October are encouraged to apply.

**Primary Responsibilities**:
**Property Presentation & Cleanliness Duties**:
Property Attendants are primarily responsible for the collection of litter and debris as well as the servicing and maintenance of waste receptacles along the Halifax waterfront, and potentially other Build Nova Scotia properties such as the Bedford and Dartmouth walking trails and Peggy's Cove. Property Attendants are also responsible for monitoring the cleanliness and presentation of Build Nova Scotia's public washrooms, supplementing the third-party contracted cleaning service as may be required. Some Property Attendants will be engaged in landscaping, grass cutting, and possibly painting, minor maintenance, pressuring washing, and a range of other duties. Property Attendants will report any potential maintenance or safety issues to the waterfront's maintenance team. The successful applicants must be prepared to provide direct support and assistance to Build Nova Scotia Marina Attendants and Waterfront Ambassadors as may be necessary to support day-to-day operations. After all, we're one team with a common vision.

**Events**: Property Attendants will support events on the waterfront by assisting with setup, maintenance and teardown as required.

**Required Skills**:
**Customer Service/Public Relations Duties**: Excellent written and verbal communication skills are essential. This position can often be the first point of contact for visitors to the waterfront by land and sea. As such, the position is responsible for:

- Communicate effectively with visitors, responding to questions, proactively promoting events, attractions, and activities (Buskers, Jazz Fest, etc.).
- Providing an enthusiastic, friendly information resource on the waterfront.
- Capture photography and video content on Build Nova Scotia properties as may be requested.

**Other**:

- Great interpersonal skills.
- Scheduling flexibility is required, including availability for weekend and evening work.
- Extensive walking and physical labour are parts of this job, both indoors and outdoors, and in varying weather conditions.
- Must be able to lift 22kg.
- Valid Driver's License (Class 5) is an asset.
- Experience driving a full-sized pickup truck and utility vehicle an asset.
- Valid Standard First Aid and WHMIS Certificates are an asset.
- Experience in landscaping, light carpentry, painting and general maintenance are an asset.
- A passion for the waterfront and working hard, rain or shine, is essential.
