**Description**
This position reports to the Manager of TMS facility at Summit: Marian & Jim Sinneave Centre for Youth Resilience
TMS (transcranial magnetic stimulation) technician will plan, organize, administer procedures, evaluate the activities and operations, and train staff and students on procedures in TMS. The technician will operate and maintain TMS equipment for a variety of research projects. They will also develop and implement policies, standards and procedures for the scientific and technical work performed in the TMS facility in collaboration with the facility manager. TMS technician may participate directly in design, development and monitoring of TMS projects. They will be responsible for ensuring procedures are adhered to including safety and administrative.
**Summary of Key Responsibilities** (job functions include but are not limited to):
- Responsible for management, maintenance, or control of a specialized area
- Involved in day-to-day supervision of the TMS facility, monitoring, planning, and organizing activities of investigators, staff and trainees in the facility
- Budget involvement including developing reports, tracking expenses, and reconciliation of accounts
- Recommend changes to methods, procedures, and practices within the lab
- Responsible for the organization of the day-to-day administration of the facility
- Responsible for ordering, stock checking, and monitoring equipment maintenance
- Responsible for repairs of equipment, ensuring safety compliance
- Conduct literature reviews and networking with researchers and equipment vendors to ensure up to date knowledge of equipment and procedures
- Train and supervise other staff, students, and Faculty in the operation of equipment and facility protocols. Provide technical support for other team members through advice on technical lab issues
- Manage own time effectively and ensures immediate reports to manager is kept informed of activities, and progress of work
**Qualifications / Requirements**:
- Minimum of a MSc degree in Biomedical Sciences, Neuroscience, Biomedical Engineering, or related area is required
- Minimum of 5 years of related technical experience within the research specialty field
- 1 to 3 years of supervisory experience preferred
- Direct and demonstrable research experience in brain stimulation or related skills
- Ability to perform detailed design, documentation, and implementation of moderately complex technological systems
- Operate and maintain complex technical equipment
- Ability to plan and direct research and administrative activities within a team environment
- Understanding of safety codes and standards related to specialization, including knowledge of research ethics and regulations for granting and regulatory agencies (e.g., Health Canada)
- Ability to interact with internal and external collaborators, clinicians, and with family and youth, including individuals affected by medical conditions and from vulnerable populations
- Must be open to learning and development, and be willing to accept new challenges and assignments
- Ability to do applicable data analysis to ensure data integrity, reliability, and validity.
- Excellent interpersonal, communication (written and oral), and organizational and interpersonal skills are required
