THE COMPANY

Madrone Environmental Services is a growing environmental consulting practice based in British Columbia with offices in Abbotsford and Duncan. Our services are varied and focused on providing scientific expertise in areas of geoscience—agrology, biology, ecology, hydrogeology, and forestry. We are recruiting to fill an Intermediate Geoscientist position to provide technical expertise with the delivery of current projects, develop new business, and provide technical support and mentorship to staff. This position may be right for you if you:

- Possess a bachelor’s or master’s degree in geology, earth sciences, or engineering, or equivalent and are you a professional geoscientist (P.Geo.) or geoscientist-in-training (GIT) with eligibility for P.Geo. within 6 months with Engineers and Geoscientists of British Columbia.
- Have 3+ years of relevant experience in environmental or engineering consulting, focused on terrain stability or other geohazards, geomorphology, or bio terrain assessments. Field experience in a forestry setting is beneficial.
- Possess a thorough knowledge of geomorphological processes. A background in hydrology, hydrogeology, and soil science would be beneficial.
- Are experienced in geohazard analysis in land development context, including modeling and providing assurances for safe development.
- Can demonstrate working knowledge of applicable provincial and federal environmental regulations.
- Are an individual who loves to problem solve and achieve goals.
- Are highly organized and subscribe to the principles of continuous improvement.
- Value working with a team of professionals to make a positive impact on the environment.
- Value teamwork and embrace diversity.
- Possess excellent verbal and written communication skills, conflict resolution and tact in liaising with the public, clients and regulators.
- Are physically fit as the work frequently entails relatively arduous field traverses in remote locations.

THE ROLE

As an Intermediate Geoscientist specializing in Terrain/Geohazard with Madrone’s Geoscience practice, you will assist clients in meeting their needs while helping to protect the public from natural hazards such as floods, earthquakes, and landslides. The key responsibilities of an Intermediate Geoscientist include, but are not limited to:

- Developing and providing technical guidance to junior staff.
- Developing and managing strong relationships with new and existing clients.
- Participating in multi-disciplinary projects.
- Work with senior Madrone professionals to prioritize project assignments and workloads.
- Plan, organize and execute projects assignments.
- Prepare cost estimates and proposals for new projects.
- Coordinate with technicians and other Qualified Professionals toward executing field investigations.
- Technical report writing.
- Mentoring and developing junior staff as needed/requested.
- Leading specific tasks and objectives related to field supervision/advisement of external 3rd party contractors.
