We are looking for a **Permanent Full-Time Lead Arborist** to join our team at Elign Mills Cemetery.
- Perform select tree surgery and tree maintenance related activities using proper arboricultural practices
- Prune and trim live branches to enhance tree structure and reduce risk of failure
- Remove dead branches and small to medium sized dead trees
- Install cables and braces between codominant and weak unions.
- Ascend trees using rope and saddle
- Attach rigging lines to affected branches/wood
- Cut and lowerwood in coordination with other crew members
- Prune branches that are impeding cemetery and burial operations
- Cutand clear fallen branches and trees
- Evaluate trees for structural strength, disease, nutrient deficiency, and insect infestation
- Plant new trees in the ground
- Provide post-installation care for new trees including watering and adding mulch
- Establish safe work zones prior to commencing work
- Clear the site and setting up high visibility safety cones
- Participate in a daily safety check (tailboard talk)
- Ensure the safety of all Arborists and passersby throughout the duration of activities
- Ensure all equipment and tools are safely maintained and operated
- Communicate with customers, visitors neighbours, fellow staff, and property managers as needed
- Perform preventative maintenance and minor repairs as needed

**Hours/Days of Work**:

- Monday to Friday 7:30AM - 4:00PM
- Additional hours on evenings, nights, and weekends for emergencies
- Overtime hours as required

**Qualifications**:

- ** **Post-secondary degree or diploma in Arboriculture and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience**
- ***Must have or be able to obtain ISA certification (International Society of Arboriculture).**:

- ** **A valid Ontario “G” driver’s licence with a clean driver’s abstract**:

- ** **At least five years of experience in climbing, rigging, knots, chainsaw, and general arboricultural practices, or a similar role**:

- Physical manual labour required, must be able to lift in work safe guidelines
- Operation of a forestry truck (both driving and dumping)
- Operation of a wood chipper and a variety of power tools including chainsaws and pole saw
- Strong communication skills (written and verbal)
- Basic computer knowledge including Microsoft Outlook, Microsoft Word, Excel
