We're looking for a mission-driven Veterinary Advisor, CNIB Guide Dogs who is passionate about creating more accessible, inclusive, and equitable communities across Canada where people with low vision have unlimited opportunities and can experience life free from barriers and discrimination.
**Your Impact at CNIB**:
- Providing veterinary advice and expertise and monitor the health and welfare and veterinary care of all dogs in the program.
- Ensuring that all dogs in the program are kept up to date with vaccines, preventatives, routine examinations, and vet procedures.
- Liaise with veterinarians across Canada who provide the primary treatment for CNIB Guide Dogs and puppies (including coordinating, reviewing, and authorizing the arrangements with veterinary clinics for various tests, treatments, and procedures) to ensure that the dogs are receiving appropriate care according to CNIB Guide Dogs' guidelines and IGDF Standards.
- Developing and maintaining guidelines, policies and procedures that meet IGDF Standards for the veterinary care, welfare and breeding of all dogs in the CNIB Guide Dogs program.
- Producing and maintaining current dog health and welfare information pack for staff, volunteers, and clients.
- Advising handlers, volunteers and training staff on routine and emergency care of their dogs including offering dog first aid and minor ailment advice.
- Attending conferences, lectures, online-courses, reading journals and consulting with specialists in order to maintain competency and a high level of knowledge regarding current veterinary issues in order to make the best decisions for all dogs in the CNIB Guide Dogs program.
- Manage and supervise staff within the Veterinary Health Team including Veterinarians, Registered Veterinary Technicians, Coordinator Canine Health and Nutrition Partners, Veterinary Assistants, Reproduction Technicians, and oversee the efficient operations of the current on-site veterinary satellite clinic.
- Provide reproductive medical care including semen collection, handling, assessment, storage of fresh/fresh chilled/frozen samples and perform AI (vaginal, transcervical) and whelp support when required.
- Veterinary services including examinations, dispensing and provision of medication, radiographs, elective procedures, and surgeries.
- Act as the Facility Director to develop and implement plan to have both CNIB Guide Dogs Canine Campus and Puppy Development Centre on site veterinary clinics meet the Accreditation Standards for Veterinary Facilities in Ontario and obtain and maintain accreditation status by the College of Veterinarians of Ontario (CVO).
- Support “On Call’ team providing appropriate advice and on-site support if required (in reference to team support, vet services and for whelps).

**Education and Certifications**
- Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM); qualified small animal veterinarian with current licence with The College of Veterinarians of Ontario.
- Over 5 years post qualification in the field of veterinary medicine, specializing in the care and welfare of small animals, primarily dogs.
**Experience and Qualifications**
- Experience with Canine Reproduction an asset.
- Previous experience with Guide or Service Dog program an asset.
- Must demonstrate a full understanding of dog health issues and veterinary care.
- Must possess knowledge of current medical practices regarding dog care and welfare.
- Must be comfortable dealing with Guide Dog Handlers, volunteers, veterinarians and staff in a professional, caring and respectful manner while showing a high level of knowledge in the field of veterinary medicine.
- Strong organizational skills.
- Personal or professional experience relating to blindness and sight loss is considered an asset.
- Personal or professional experience working with assistive technology and/or accessible environments is considered an asset.
