**ABOUT THE POSITION**

Carousel Players’ Summer Theatre School is looking for a drama Instructor for a two-week camp for youth ages 11-14, offered in conjunction with the Shaw Festival. The instructor will plan and deliver the camp and be supported throughout the two weeks by STS staff. The Instructor creates the curriculum of the Shaw Theatre School camp including programming and running activities for campers; supervising campers on their visit to the Shaw Festival; devising, finding and/or supplying the script for campers’ final performance; directing and rehearsing in preparation for performance; and organizing the technical and production needs for the camp.

**Key Responsibilities**
- Participate in an orientation and training session as required prior to the start of
Summer Theatre School.
- Develop the camp programs, including integrating camper instruction sessions by Shaw
Festival artists (session details to be provided by Shaw Festival in advance)
- Identify materials and supplies, photocopying needs, technical production elements, and other requirements for your program.
- Devise, find and/or supply the script for the final performance based on the Shaw show campers will see.
- Perform the necessary preparation ahead of and between each camp day.
- Be on site by 8:45 am eachmorning at the latest to prepare for the day with staff.

- Deliver the camp program and support the campers throughout the day.
- Provide evaluation feedback to the Education Coordinator to inform future camps
- 2+ years of training and/or experience in drama and theatre practices.
- Some directorial experience (for the final performance).
- Volunteer or employment experience in working with children/teens.
- Spoken and written English proficiency sufficient to lead drama education programs and ensure accuracy in the content of written and spoken messages.

Other qualities and skills that are not required but are considered an asset:

- Experience running a theatre camp.
- Post-secondary training in drama and/or education.
- Familiarity with the Shaw Festival
- Access to reliable transportation.

**Contract Fee**:$1,800 This is a contract position for a self-employed contract worker and no source deductions will be taken from the fee.
