**Summary**

Oahas operates based on the principles of Greater Involvement of People living with HIV/AIDS (GIPA), Meaningful Engagement of People living with HIV/AIDS (MEPA), Indigenous harm reduction, and respect for our cultural knowledge and teachings. These foundational principles guide all aspects of our relationships and work. Our mission is to support healthy, thriving Indigenous communities by ending the transmission of HIV and other STBBIs in our communities.

The Gilbert Centre is a registered, not-for-profit, charitable organization formed in 1993 as the AIDS Committee of Simcoe County in response to the HIV epidemic in Simcoe County. Since its inception, the organization’s mandate has broadened to support people living with and affected by HIV and to support and celebrate the lives of the LGBTQ communities in Simcoe County and the Muskoka Region. Since 2015, the Centre has offered the Safer Spaces program to increase access to services and programming by educating organizations and their service providers.

The Two-Spirit Safer Spaces Facilitator position functions in partnership between Oahas and the Gilbert Centre. This position will support Gilbert Centre’s Safer Spaces program in providing training and consultation services to create safer spaces for Two-Spirit, Indigiqueer and LGBT Indigenous peoples. This position reports to the Executive Director at Oahas and is supported by Gilbert Centre. It is based in Barrie and provides services in various communities across Simcoe Muskoka.

**Key Responsibilities**

**Community Development**
- Facilitate Safer Spaces professional development training with organizations to increase access to services for 2S-LGBTQ+ individuals
- Work with Knowledge Carriers and Elders in creating and delivering programming, and support the development of a Two-Spirit Knowledge Carriers network
- Collaborate and work alongside Safer Spaces team members to deliver education, assessment and consultation services
- Act as a resource on addressing homophobia, biphobia, transphobia, racism, sexual orientation, and gender identity as it relates to Two-Spirit, Indigiqueer and Indigenous LGBTQ+ communities
- Develop contacts and networks to procure new Safer Spaces clients
- Liaise with Two-Spirit Outreach Workers, Oahas team members, and New Horizons’ community partners as needed
- Works with designated local communities to build and maintain a strong capacity to respond to the needs of Two-Spirit & Indigenous LGBTQ+ folks
- Create an empowering environment that celebrates the diversity and visibility of Two-Spirit, Indigiqueer and Indigenous LGBTQ+ folks

**Program Development**
- Development of new materials, resources, and training specifically regarding Two-Spirit, Queer and Trans Indigenous inclusion
- Revise the Safer Spaces Organizational Assessment Tool to integrate and reflect key considerations and best practices for Two-Spirit, Indigiqueer and LGBT Indigenous inclusion
- Use the data gathered through Safer Spaces organizational assessment tool to develop programming aimed at meeting those local needs, predominantly through local partnerships
- Capture program data and evaluate the program as per funding requirements
- Attend meetings and training as required for program updates
- Contribute to social media platforms for Safer Spaces

**Administration**
- Ongoing program reporting, data collection, file maintenance and records management
- Ongoing compliance with organizational policies and procedures
- Other administrative and operational duties and responsibilities as required

**Additional Expectations**
- Flexibility with schedule and ability to work evenings and weekends on occasion
- May be required to participate or assist in other organizational or agency initiatives
- Collaborate with Oahas management and staff on projects and activities that strengthen Oahas’ programs and services
- Share in the care and responsibility for Traditional Medicines and bundle items as per protocol
- Travel throughout the region

**Qualifications**
- Competency and a good understanding of Indigenous cultures, ways, teachings and histories
- Relevant combination of education, life, and work experience and/or formal education in a relevant field of study (Indigenous studies, adult education, community engagement, curriculum development, or any related fields)
- Demonstrated ability to facilitate professional development workshops
- Experience with designing programs and workshops, including content development
- Experience with conducting assessments, analyzing data and providing consultation services
- Passion for nurturing culturally appropriate community participation and modelling effective leadership within Indigenous communities
- Lived/living experience and connection to Two-Spirit, Indigiqueer, or LGBT Indigenous community
