Primary responsibilities of the position include:
Individual/Direct Therapeutic Services: The purpose of individual work would be to support students in feeling valued, safe and understood in the context of a school.
- Provision of individual therapy, to the extent a student is ready and/or able to receive this level of support.
- Therapeutic services would be in keeping with a two eyed seeing model, so it best serves the large Indigenous population in the school and also serves the diverse needs of all students.
- A significant area of focus would be assisting students with understanding, debriefing, and navigating complex trauma. Supporting these students in understanding their trauma and how it may manifest itself at school is essential.
- Supporting students who have a complex developmental and/or complex diagnostic profile will be essential. Areas of focus could include (but not be restricted to) depression, self-harm, suicidal ideation, anxiety, self-esteem, gender identify, addictions, and any other mental health issues which may be impacting the student.
- Provision of ongoing assessments of students, as required, and developing social/emotional plans that are in keeping with the broader individual educational plans for students.

Collaborative School/System Services
- Works as part of a collaborative school team.
- Assists school personnel with understanding family and system dynamics as they relate to student functioning.
- Works closely with the school psychologist, and is an integral member of the school clinical team.
- Cultivates open communication between students, families, and the school team.
- Takes leadership in the clinical case management of students, particularly day treatment students.
- Provides leadership and support related to any traumatic events that directly impact individual students or impacts the school as a whole.
- Provides support in school crisis interventions, and guides in threat and risk assessments.
- Coordinates and participates in multi-system/multi-agency meetings to advocate for student’s needs.
- Assists in the creation and distribution of solid educational and social/emotional programming and plans.
- Is well versed in self-regulation and brain-based programming, and is able to providing strategies and/or interventions relevant to the educational context.
- Provides preventative programming for students, and is able to support this at early, middle and high school levels.
- Provides professional learning opportunities in the areas of trauma and mental health to assist the school team in developing the necessary skills and competencies required to support student’s complex profiles of need.

Supportive Services to Families/Caregivers:

- Provides a level of direct intervention to families and/or caregivers as it relates to supporting student need.
- Assists in providing families and/or caregivers with appropriate resources in order to enhance healthy and balanced family functioning.
- Helps families and/or caregivers understand how outside service agencies can be helpful and necessary to support their child/youth (i.e., mental health, family services, medical/psychiatric support, private therapy, etc.).
- Acts as a vital clinical liaison and advocates with outside service agencies to support families and/or caregivers in receiving the most comprehensive services for their child/youth.

Qualifications:

- Eligible for or in possession of a current School Clinicians Certificate in Social Work.
- Member of the Manitoba College of Social Work.
- Must be able to effectively build relationships with children, youth, caregivers and families, as well as supervise, coach and collaboratively work with others in an educational setting.
- Experience in the provision of therapeutic clinical interventions in an educational context.
- Experience in assessing level of risk and/or threats, and to assist the educational team in creating safety plans for students.
