As a Health and Safety Leader, you will play a critical role in ensuring the safe construction and commissioning of our facility as well as production responsibilities. You will be responsible for developing, implementing, and managing all aspects of the health and safety program during the construction, commissioning phases and operation. Your primary focus will be to establish and enforce safety policies, procedures, and practices to mitigate risks and promote a safe work environment for all personnel involved.

Key Responsibilities:
Develop and Implement Health and Safety Program:

- Design and implement a comprehensive health and safety program specific to the construction and commissioning phases of the high purity alumina facility.
- Ensure compliance with relevant legislation, regulations, and industry best practices.
- Develop policies, procedures, and guidelines for safe work practices, hazard identification, risk assessments, and incident reporting.
- Establish protocols for emergency response and evacuation procedures.

Construction and Commissioning Site Safety:

- Conduct regular site inspections to identify potential hazards and ensure compliance with health and safety standards.
- Collaborate with contractors, subcontractors, and project management teams to ensure adherence to safety protocols.
- Monitor and enforce safety requirements, including the proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and adherence to safe work procedures.
- Provide guidance and support to construction and commissioning personnel on health and safety matters.

Risk Assessment and Control:

- Conduct comprehensive risk assessments for all construction and commissioning activities, identifying potential hazards and implementing appropriate control measures.
- Develop and implement hazard mitigation strategies, including engineering controls, administrative controls, and the use of PPE.
- Regularly review and update risk assessments based on changing project conditions and requirements.

Training and Education:

- Develop and deliver health and safety training programs for all personnel involved in the construction and commissioning phases.
- Ensure that employees, contractors, and subcontractors are adequately trained and competent in safe work practices.
- Provide guidance on the proper use of equipment, machinery, and tools to minimize safety risks.

Incident Reporting and Investigation:

- Establish and manage an incident reporting system to promptly report and investigate all incidents, accidents, and near misses.
- Conduct thorough investigations into incidents, identifying root causes and implementing corrective and preventive actions.
- Maintain accurate records of incidents, investigations, and corrective actions.

Regulatory Compliance:

- Stay up to date with relevant health and safety legislation, regulations, and industry standards.
- Ensure compliance with local, provincial/state, and federal health and safety requirements.
- Liaise with regulatory authorities, as necessary, and participate in audits and inspections.

Continuous Improvement:

- Monitor safety performance metrics and identify areas for improvement.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to implement effective safety measures and promote a safety culture throughout the construction and commissioning phases.
- Regularly review and update health and safety policies and procedures to align with evolving project needs and industry best practices.

Qualifications and Requirements:

- Bachelor's degree or College diploma in Occupational Health and Safety, Engineering, or a related field. Relevant certifications are preferred.
- Extensive experience in health and safety management within the construction or industrial setting, preferably in a similar project or facility.
- Thorough knowledge of health and safety regulations, codes, and standards applicable to construction projects.
- Strong understanding of hazard identification, risk assessment, and control measures.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to effectively engage and influence stakeholders at all levels.

**Salary**: $65,000.00-$75,000.00 per year
