The Edmonton Humane Society (EHS) has been an animal welfare leader in the Edmonton community since 1907. EHS is a safe haven for thousands of homeless animals each year, providing veterinary treatment, behavioral rehabilitation, care, enrichment, and rehoming. Beyond animal sheltering, we engage with the community through various programs and services to support happy, lifelong bonds between people and pets.

**The Role**:
As a member of the Fund Development team, the Development Officer creates, maintains, and grows donor relationships with EHS. Supporting philanthropic investment from individual and corporate donors. This position reports to the Manager, Fund Development, and is responsible for cultivation, stewardship, and acknowledgment of major gifts of $1000+.

**Key Roles & Responsibilities**:
Individual Giving & Donor Development
- Building and sustaining donor relationships that lead to philanthropic investment and deepen connection with EHS.
- Building a strong pipeline from current and past donors as well as new prospects.
- Strategically manage a portfolio of donors.
- Make personal calls and schedule in-person meetings to cultivate, solicit, and steward major gift donors.
- Raiser’s Edge data entry to ensure donor data is updated regularly including address and giving information, prospect stages, proposals, and contact reports.

Planned Giving
- Provide knowledge and expertise for planned gifts, including charitable gift annuities, real property and other non-cash assets, charitable remainder trusts, donor-advised funds, beneficiary designations, bequests, life insurance policies, endowments, and retained life estates.
- Gather data, assess prospects, and develop comprehensive long-range and short-term strategies designed to increase planned gift donations at EHS.
- Take a lead role in ensuring planned giving materials (web, print materials, etc.) are engaging and impactful for donors.
- Make proactive personal calls and schedule in-person meetings with prospects to cultivate, solicit, and steward planned gift donors. Follow up on inbound donor requests for planned giving information.

Donor Stewardship
- Individual 1:1 donor stewardship.
- Work to coordinate EHS leadership involvement in the stewardship of assigned donors.

Corporate Giving/Sponsorship
- Work to build relationships with corporate partners that lead to philanthropic investment through donations and sponsorship.
- Engage in sponsorship outreach to corporations to support events, programs, and shelter needs.
- Cultivate and steward corporate sponsors.

**Education & Requirements**:

- ** A certificate, diploma, or degree in a related field (fund development, business, marketing, communications, public relations, social sciences) which adds value and context to the work being performed and overall understanding of the work we do.**:

- ** CFRE preferred.**:

- Proven track record in fund development including 5+ years in non-profit including direct interaction and relationship building with donors to achieve successful outcomes.
- Knowledge, experience, or training in donor relations, fundraising and sponsorship, and event management is an asset as is familiarity with a donor database such as Raiser’s Edge.
- Experience raising gifts of $50,000+

**Skills & Abilities**:
This position requires the ability to exercise tact, good judgment, confidentiality, and discretion while upholding high standards of performance and accountability in a multi-tasking environment. Strong planning, organizational, and project management skills are necessary, as well as the ability to work independently and as part of a team. Success will be achieved by adopting an outlook that embraces change as a constant and by proactively managing a large and constantly fluctuating workload.

- ** Compensation**:EHS offers a competitive not-for-profit compensation package which includes a comprehensive benefits package, and a strong work-life balance.
- ** Hours**: 40 hours a week; however, is expected to work hours as required to fulfill department responsibilities. Some evenings and weekends may be required.
