Open Arms is committed to treating every individual with dignity and respect, recognizing the inherent worth and unique journey of each person.

This mission is expressed through the provision of shelter to the unhoused, outreach services to those in precarious housing or living rough, and support to guests and clients in securing stable, independent housing. Open Arms is also undertaking an ambitious plan to maintain and provide new affordable housing in the Annapolis Valley. Our goal is to build new or purchase existing housing units that will be kept affordable for those unable to pay market rates.

**JOB DESCRIPTION**

The Community Outreach Summer Student will directly support the Open Arms leadership team. This team facilitates and supports all branches of Open Arms’ core programming. These areas of programming include: emergency and transitional shelter programming, thrift store and furniture bank programs, housing support and affordable housing programs along with various community outreach programs and services. The Community Outreach Summer Student will support all programming outcomes and adhere to all policies and procedures as outlined by Open Arms. The Community Outreach Summer Student will fundamentally model a belief and lifestyle in keeping with the vision and values of Open Arms Resource Centre.

**Responsibilities**:
The Community Outreach Summer Student will provide support to the Open Arms leadership team by assisting in the general facilitation and support of all Open Arms programming.

**SPECIFIC DUTIES CAN INCLUDE A MIX OF ANY OF THE FOLLOWING**:

- Assisting with retail related duties in our thrift store (OATS) including, but not limited to, working on cash, sorting donations, stocking shelves, and helping customers.
- Assisting with furniture program (OAKS) related duties including but not limited to, carrying and moving furniture, organizing furniture bank space, keeping inventory, helping with pick-up/drop off of furniture donations, assisting in transportation and loading/unloading of store inventory.
- Assisting with shelter related duties in our shelter programs (OASIS & Tiny Meadows) including, but not limited to, food prep, cooking, serving, cleaning, laundry, minor landscaping/grounds upkeep, laundry and supporting guests alongside our leadership team with various aspects of case management.
- Assisting with Outreach and Housing support related duties including, but not limited to, traveling with Outreach or Housing lead to visit those in the community who are living rough, are precariously housed, or are receiving housing supports, assisting with any clean-up, shopping, or case management alongside the team lead.
- Assisting with any events, sales, promotions or set up of new programs and/or services operated by Open Arms.

**OTHER**:

- Maintaining a consistent work schedule, attending all scheduled shifts unless incapable.
- Participating in regular, weekly supervision, informal debriefs, and check-ins throughout your CSJ position term.
- Reporting on a regular basis to the Community Outreach Coordinator regarding issues of need/concern.
- Following appropriate policies and procedures of Open Arms Resource Centre. Ensure programs operate in line with the mission, vision, and values of the organization. Ensure all activities comply with applicable standards and laws.
- Other duties as required.

**Job Types**: Full-time, Internship / Co-op
Contract length: 12 weeks

Pay: $15.20 per hour

Expected hours: 40 per week
