Peer Career Assistant

Are you interested in assisting with initiatives to connect NAIT students with employers or career advising? Do you have a passion for marketing, relationship-building or wish to learn more? As part of Student Life portfolio, the Peer Career Assistant supports student learning and development by creating equitable, safe, and stimulating career development opportunities for international and domestic students. Reporting to the Supervisor, Advising and Career Services, the Peer Career Assistant supports Students’ next step towards their dream career. The Peer Career Assistant could be focusing on a specific area of career development, such as employer services, marketing or new initiatives.

**Key Responsibilities**:

- Assess current student needs and make recommendations for future career events.
- Collect content and assist with managing the Career Services newsletter and/or social media account(s).
- Answer low-complexity inquiries from employers seeking to hire NAIT students/alumni.
- Review job postings from employers on Career Connect (CC).
- Assist with marketing career-related events on campus and online.
- Other duties as assigned.

**Skills & Abilities**:

- Interest in supporting career development for students new to post-secondary and/or new to Canada.
- Interest in supporting learning outside the classroom for the broader NAIT community, such as employment-related events.
- Ability to facilitate low complexity conversations with students/employers.
- Ability to engage with peers in a community space and on social media.
- Familiarity with using Canva, willingness to learn Symplicity.
- Familiarity with creating, editing and evaluating social media posts, stories, and video takeovers according to a social media plan.
- Understanding of the student adjustment process and needs of first-year students is a strong asset.
- Good understanding of the various student services at NAIT is also an asset.
- Demonstrated commitment to supporting NAIT’s student community.
- Demonstrated student leadership, excellent organizational and time management skills. strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Demonstrated intercultural understanding and awareness.

**Qualifications**:

- Completion of grade twelve.
- One year of related experience.
- Enrolled at NAIT as a student for September 2023 semester and in good academic standing.
- Equivalencies may be considered.

**Remuneration**: $20.97 - $26.97 per hour plus 12% vacation/holiday pay. (Classification - Admin Support III).
- This appointment is covered by the Alberta Union of Provincial Employees (AUPE) Collective Agreement_
