**Position Title**: Indigenous Family Support Worker
- **Locations**:Water View YMCA Child Care Centre(150 Water St #800, Vancouver)
- Portside YMCA Child Care Centre (151 W Cordova St #700, Vancouver)
**Terms**: Permanent, Full-Time: 35 hours per week
**Schedule**: Monday to Friday; varied hours to meet operational needs; weekly Wednesday evening until 7:30pm.
Other occasional work on evenings and weekends as required.
**Salary**:$48,000 annually + Benefits
**Start Date**:As soon as possible
**Reports To**: Manager, Early Childhood and Family Development

**Nature & Scope**:
The Indigenous Family Support Worker participates within a collaborative, strength based model to provide enhanced services to children ages 0-5 and their families at our Bob and Kay Ackles YMCA Nanook House (Nanook) and Woodwards YMCA Child Care Centre (Woordwards). The Indigenous Family Support Worker works collaboratively with the Early Childhood Educators who have the responsibility for the child care of the children in the program. Many children and families in both programs experience systemic barriers and oppression, and may have experienced trauma.

**Major Responsibilities**:

- Provide strength-based, trauma-informed, individual and family support, coaching, and advocacy
- Make referrals to link children and families to appropriate services to meet their needs
- Encourage family participation through involvement and empowerment and ensure that parents are actively involved in the planning and decision making process for their families
- Organize and deliver group workshops, training, and programs that support healthy child and family development
- Co-host weekly Wednesday night family dinner at Nanook, leading and providing programming for children and families, supporting with serving meals set-up and take-down
- Provide teachings, knowledge of Indigenous and urban Indigenous culture, traditions, and history as a way of supporting the family's connection to their culture and community
- Maintains records and writes reports to demonstrate program impacts to funders
- Working closely with the childcare management and the YMCA’s Funds Development team to build relationships with donors and assist with childcare program tours and other events with donors
- Working in ratio with children may be required in both programs

**Qualifications**:

- Post-secondary diploma in Early Childhood Education, Child & Youth Care, Social Services or another related field
- Basic ECE certification (or ECEA) from a program recognized in British Columbia, an asset
- Current Standard First Aid/CPR-C certificate, can be completed within first 90 days of employment
- Current Food Safe Level 1 certificate, can be completed within first 90 days of employment

**Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Experience**:

- Minimum 3 years’ experience developing and facilitating community based programming and services for children and families, specifically indigenous families
- Exceptional interpersonal, oral and written communication skills with experience in developing and nurturing collaborative relationships and partnerships
- Understanding of the history and ongoing colonization of Indigenous peoples and how these impact accessing services
- Understand the dynamics related to working with individuals and families who have experienced or witnessed abuse, addiction, violence, or inter-generational trauma
A well-defined sense of diplomacy, including solid negotiation, conflict resolution, crisis management and people management skills
- Knowledge of Indigenous communities, culture, organizations, and service providers within the East Vancouver and Downtown Eastside communities
- Demonstrate reliability, maturity, high level of sensitivity and confidentiality and healthy role modelling
- Computer proficient, including Word, Excel, Power Point, and Outlook and Microsoft Office 365
- Experience with program evaluation, data analysis, and reporting outcomes to funders
