Newcomer Connections is a key pillar within the YMCA family. Established in 1993, Y Newcomer Connections is a leading immigrant settlement centre focused on creating connections that will transform our community into a lasting, healthy home for immigrants from around the world, and from all walks of life.

**The Opportunity**

The Newcomer Connections Support Worker role assists the Newcomer Support Services Team and the Newcomer Programming Team in their work of child care support and placements, settlement assistance, practical guidance, community referrals, youth supports and data entry to newcomer clients at Newcomer Connections. This position reports to the Language Supervisor and works directly with the Manager, Newcomer Support Services and Manager, Newcomer Programming.

**Responsibilities**:

- Assist the Language Advisor with child care placements and paperwork for newcomers in Newcomer Connections programs;
- Assist the Newcomer Support Services Teams with their responsibilities during peak arrival periods of government-assisted refugees;
- Support Newcomer Connections staff with everyday tasks, including administrative and data entry tasks;
- Work with Youth Supports Team to support newcomer children, youth and families who require assistance integrating;
- Support the Youth Supports Team in activities and programs that further assist integration of newcomer youth into summer camps and the school system;
- Work with Newcomer Connections team members to support service delivery to newcomers;
- Attend client meetings as requested;
- Communicate with clients as requested regarding information and orientation sessions and/or one-on-one settlement plan meetings;
- Perform research and prepare reports as requested;
- Support front desk staff with tasks and lunch coverage;
- Attend staff meetings;
- Perform other duties as assigned.

**Skills and Qualifications**:

- Eligible to receive Canada Summer Jobs funding
- Approachable and possessing a strong client-centric attitude
- Heightened sensitivity to the needs of our immigrant community
- Exceptional ability to communicate in English with clients whose first language is not English
- Experience in a cross-cultural environment
- Exceptional oral and written communication skills
- Exceptional organizational and inter-personal skills
- Must be fluent in the English language, knowledge of other languages is a great asset

**Required**:

- Employment is contingent on having a clean Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Search.
