NCC is looking for passionate people to join the Atlantic stewardship team as Conservation and Stewardship Interns based in Fredericton (NB), Halifax (NS), Charlottetown (PE), St. John’s (NL), and Corner Brook (NL). Conservation and Stewardship Interns will help the stewardship team conduct fieldwork, process field data, and prepare reports. There are also opportunities to work closely with partner organizations, local stewards, and volunteers. Stewardship Interns will also engage the public in our on-the-ground stewardship work, coordinating a series of volunteer working days and public outreach events on NCC lands. These positions are intended to provide an inspiring, learning-focused environment for junior professionals.

**Duties and Responsibilities**:

- Complete inventories of plants, animals, communities, and physical features on NCC properties, in all ecosystems (forest, coastal, wetland).
- Execute organized and timely data management tasks including uploading field data into internal databases and reporting on field data.
- Complete monitoring of NCC properties to identify stewardship actions and threats and prepare monitoring reports including maps.
- Map property features, habitat types, and threats such as invasive species using Field Maps and ArcGIS Pro.
- Complete physical land management tasks such as installing signage, removing invasive plant species, cleaning up garbage, and maintaining trails.
- Assist NCC stewardship staff with organizing and attending outreach activities including weekend volunteer events.
- Other duties as assigned.

**Required Skills and Attributes**:
This posting is targeted to individuals possessing the following skills and traits:

- University/college student or recent graduate with a biology, forestry, or environmental science/studies degree. Those having also attended a technical school (forestry/wildlife) a strong plus;
- Enthusiastic about conserving nature;
- Basic knowledge of plants, wildlife, and birds;
- Adaptable/ flexible with day-to-day plans;
- Comfortable hiking/working in remote wilderness locations without trails (dense forest with black flies / ticks etc.) for extended periods in various weather;
- Enjoy working as part of a team, and has a sense of humour, compassionate, good-natured, positive attitude;
- Clear, professional and thoughtful communicator to landowners, public, colleagues;
- Reliable, punctual, and responsible;
- Willingness to learn and follow protocols;
- Self-motivated to work independently;
- Excellent organizational skills;
- Proficient with data management and spreadsheet software;
- Physical work will be required (e.g., strenuous hiking, carrying a heavy backpack, etc.);
- Experience with Geographic Information Systems (GIS) a strong asset;
- Current Wilderness or Standard First Aid training is a strong asset;
- Valid driver’s license, ability to rent a vehicle (must be 21 years of age) and comfort driving on highways and rough roads.

**Terms of Employment**:

- Subject to funding, these are 17-week positions from May 6 - August 30, 2024 with the possibility of extension.
- Compensation: $19.00/hour.
- The positions are based out of Fredericton (NB), Halifax (NS), Charlottetown (PE), St. John’s (NL), and Corner Brook (NL).
- Regularly scheduled travel to NCC properties throughout the province including frequent overnight trips and occasional weekends. Travel expenses will be reimbursed.
- Positions will include “office work” that may be completed in a work from home setting.
