**I. JOB SUMMARY**

**PRIMARY FUNCTIONS**:Receiving and storage of patient food service items, completing inventory, organizing and cleaning patient food service storage areas and ware washing.

The Receiver role models the organizational core competencies.
II. JOB REQUIREMENTS
**Education**:

- **Minimum Grade 12 education**.

**Experience**:

- Food Service work experience preferred.

**Professional Affiliations/Memberships**:

- None

**Additional Skills/Abilities**:

- Current Food Handlers Certificate.
- Demonstrates ability to read and write English.
- Displays excellent communication skills including a polite, tactful manner.
- Demonstrates ability to adhere to departmental and legislated health and safety standards.
- Excellent customer service skills.
- Basic math skills.
- Regular attendance is a requirement of the position.

**PRINCIPAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES**
- **Daily Responsibilities** **Receives items for patient food services. Stores items appropriately according to food safety requirements and first-in/first-out rotation.**:

- Completes inventory of patient food service items in collaboration with the Food Service Supervisor.
- Organizes, cleans and sanitizes patient food storage areas.
- Participates in warewashing.

**2.0 Proper Food Handling Techniques**

**2.01** Rotation of food and supplies, ensuring expiry dates are adhered to and proper rotation rules are followed.

**2.02 **Conduct temperature checks to ensure safe product.
- **Ensure quality products are served and presented well.**:

- Monitor daily temperatures of specific equipment and food products
- Ensure specific equipment has correct amounts of chemical product while in use to achieve sanitary requirements.

**3.0 Sanitation**

**3.01 **Proper sanitation techniques are followed.

**3.02 **Work areas are clean and free of spills.

**3.03 **Proper handling of WHMIS products.

**3.04 **Appropriate uniforms and clean personal grooming following Department Dress Code for food handlers.
- **Overall cleaning of department.**:

- Safe Procedures must be followed when moving carts.
- Infection Control Procedures must be adhered to.

**4.0 Performs cross-functional duties, as assigned or requested.**

**5.0 Performs other duties consistent with the job classification, as required.**

- Individuals delivering patient food service related items.

**PHYSICAL/MENTAL DEMANDS**
- Frequent lifting, repetitive movement, pushing and carrying of supplies and carts.
- Stressful situations during busy periods. Time management essential.
- Frequent standing for long periods of time.
- Work may be required in a cold environment of 10 ºC or in a hot environment in the dish room.

**WORK ENVIRONMENT**
- Work may be performed in a hot, humid, noisy environment.
- Product may need to be obtained from fridge that is at 4ºC or lower or the freezer that is at -18 ºC.
- Equipment utilized: Dish machine/pot machine, food carts, serving utensils. Microwave ovens, etc.
- Rotating shifts and weekends.

**IMPACT OF ERRORS**
- Failure to accurately receive and store patient food service items lead to shortages or overages of items available to patients. With shortages, substitutions may be required to be made and, in turn, decrease in patient satisfaction etc. may occur.
- Improper cleaning and sanitation procedures can lead to spread of infection/disease and/or the contamination of food possibly leading to patient food borne illness.

**Salary**: $15.50-$17.00 per hour
