Carpenter Journeyperson

NAC is currently seeking Journeyperson Carpenters to join our team, initially based on our Water Pollution Control Plant project in Kemptville, ON.
**Position Summary**:
Under the direction of the Civil Superintendent, the Journeyperson Carpenter is responsible for building, restoring and/or installing of structural formwork, concrete, wood and related materials. This position requires knowledge of the heavy construction industry. Specifically, the practices, procedures, techniques, tools and equipment, materials, specifications, quality control, cost control, and safety associated with this industry. The Journeyperson Carpenter must be proficient at the following tasks: layout for walls, reading blueprints, and must possess mathematical and analytical skills necessary to do material estimates.
- Assist with the creation of blueprints and manufacturing specifications.
- Construct chutes, forms and align form panels for pouring concrete.
- Observe and comply with all health and safety regulations and ensures any apprentices under your direction comply.
- Lay building foundations.
- Confirm trueness of structures, with a plumb bob and level.
- May be required to build trestles, bridges towers and other structures.
- Operate and maintain carpentry tools and equipment.
- Keep a daily log of tasks.
- Respect and respond to direction given.
- Contribute and participate in the effective use of the Quality Control System.
- Prepare estimates for work orders and request materials required to complete the job.
- Perform masonry and plaster work.
- Ensure an adequate supply of material is available for preventative maintenance program.
- Set up scaffolding as needed.
- Handle and transport job materials to the work area as needed.
- Guide and teach apprentices ensuring they are preforming task correctly.
- Perform other related duties, including minor duties of other trades where certification is not required and the work does not exceed own limitations.
- Understand and comply with all company policies and procedures.
- Other duties as required.
**Requirements**:
- Current Journeyperson’s Carpenter’s Certificate - Ontario or equivalent.
- 3-5 years of experience working in heavy construction.
- Knowledge of safe operation of carpentry tools.
- Knowledge of workplace safety and safe lifting and handling procedures.
- Ability to operate required equipment in a safe and responsible manner.
- Time management skills.
- Ability to read building specifications, blueprints and as-builds.
- Ability to draw appropriate sketches to communicate details to team members, and others.
- Mathematical skills and analytical skills necessary to do material and labour estimates.
- Receptive to change - can adapt to changing circumstances.
- Makes suggestions for improvement.
- Proactive in ensuring job knowledge is current.
- Respect diversity - treat others with respect.

Pay: $41.07-$45.07 per hour
Expected hours: 44 per week
