Job Summary:

The Carpenter Journeyperson is a skilled tradesperson responsible for building, restoring, and installing structural formwork, concrete, wood, and related materials. This position requires knowledge of the heavy construction industry, including practices, procedures, techniques, tools, equipment, materials, specifications, quality control, cost control, and safety.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist with blueprint creation and manufacturing specifications.
  • Construct chutes, forms, and align form panels for concrete pouring.
  • Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations and supervise apprentices.
  • Lay building foundations.
  • Verify structure trueness using a plumb bob and level.
  • Build trestles, bridges, towers, and other structures as required.
  • Operate and maintain carpentry tools and equipment.
  • Keep a daily log of tasks.
  • Respond to direction and contribute to the Quality Control System.
  • Prepare estimates for work orders and request materials.
  • Perform masonry and plaster work.
  • Ensure adequate material supply for preventative maintenance.
  • Set up scaffolding as needed.
  • Transport job materials to the work area.
  • Guide and teach apprentices.
  • Perform other related duties.

Requirements:

  • Current Journeyperson's Carpenter's Certificate – Ontario or equivalent.
  • 3-5 years of experience in heavy construction.
  • Knowledge of safe carpentry tool operation.
  • Knowledge of workplace safety and safe lifting procedures.
  • Ability to operate equipment safely.
  • Time management skills.
  • Ability to read building specifications, blueprints, and as-builds.
  • Ability to draw sketches for communication.
  • Mathematical and analytical skills for material estimates.
  • Adaptability to changing circumstances.
